Speedboat & Catamaran Ride
Teh Speedboat ride was part of our trip to Isla Saona and it's one of the funniest things I've eveer done! There's nothing better than the water splashing in your face while breaking the waves!
The catamaran ride was also part of our Isla Saona Trip and even though it was totally different from the Speedboat ride it's still fantastic! You're able to enjoy the sea and take a look at the Dominican coast while the staff is trying to keep you busy (with dancing) and hydrated (and as they like to call it: have some vitamins - RUM)! :)
From Punta Cana it is about an hour and a half with the bus (we were picked up at 7 a.m. to start the trip)!
After arriving in Bayahibe small boats took us to our catamaran which would take us to the island (that probably took another hour or two). The island itself is small but absolutely charming, there are even some small shops! Your travel agency (you book the tour with) will usually provide you with food and drinks! After the two hour stay we were heading back - but this time with a speedboat! Oh my god, that was so incredible! We then had a short stop at a sandbank in the middle of the Caribbean sea! And then the about 30 minute speedboat ride back to Bayahibe - it was such an amazing! You'll be exhausted by the time you get back in the bus but it's totally worth it!

Daytrip 2 – Isla Saona
Before arriving in Isla Soana by boat, we visited a swamp that is part of the protected Parque Nacional del Este. Here we were able to see local fauna and flora, but couldn’t get out of the boat. A bit further, we got out of the boat on crystal clear green water and enjoyed the company of turtles.
We arrived at Isla Saona by lunch time and enjoyed our meal there – fish and seafood, tasty and fresh. Afterwards we could rest on the beach – the island’s beaches are fantastic - white sand and the water is warm and blue. The island has an average temperature of 26ºC all year round and 13 hours of sun every day.

Took the Catamaran trip to isla saona.
Boated you out to the middle of the Caribbean, got out in the middle of the ocean-waist deep-star fish all around your feet-and lotsa' rum!
Got to the Island-More than words can say-paradise!!
Volleyball, bbq lobster, chicken, shrimp, fruit, dancing drinking-went back to resort on Catamaran-sailing in the caribbean-rum, music-a great day!!!
One of the optional day excursions is a Catamaren Trip to Saona island off of DR. We paid 80$ US to take part in this option.
Saona was beautiful.
The trip there was great on the Catamaran - they served drinks and played music.
The ride back was a nightmare. They stuff all the tourists in a tiny boat and drive super fast so that you must hold on for dear life. PLUS it poored and as the locals pulled out their rain jackets - we got drenched!
on the way back they also stop at a natural pool with starfish. I am sure it would have been nice if I didn't feel like my interanal organs were soaking!
Isla Saona 2
You have to go to Bayahibe where the motorboats sail. About 40 minutes after you'll land at Isla Saona. Here there is a little fisherman's village and many beautiful desert beaches with a fabulous sea. This really is the Caribbean Sea!!
Go to visit Isla Saona. It's a long way off, but it is worth it. On the way you'll pass through Higuey where you'll can see a typical Dominican town. Its small brightly-coloured houses look like just come out from a picture.
You really must visit Isla Saona, it's something that won't get out of you mind easily. The warm blue water is just amazing.
