Visit a minizoo with iguanas, snakes, turtles, etc. before embarking on a small boat on the Islabon and Yasica rivers. The tour will take you to the mouth of the rivers in the Atlantic ocean. There's a restaurant there where you can eat fish, drink "piņa coladas" or "coco locos". Try it!!!! Well, the main thing to do in Cabarete is, of course, go to the beach. It has all the 'ingredients' of a tropical beach: palm trees, fine sand, blue and warm water. Besides that it's one of the best spots for windsufing, and to the north there are a kites' and surfers' beach. The surfers' beach, called Playa Encuentro, was kind of hard to get to. It's outside Cabarete, on the way to Puerto Plata. We took public transport, that is, an ancient minibus packed with locals and a chicken or two. Although it was full to the top it still kept stopping at the road to pick up more passengers who somewhow managed to squeeze in, following the formula, 'no matter how many people there are on a bus, you can always fit one more'. At some point we got off and walked through an abandoned field, then past a small hotel, and then by some trees and we got to the beach. It was almost deserted and we managed to see just one surfer. We walked further on, and didn't meet any people, so we enjoyed this long beach on our own. Leave a Comment
