Cabarete Things to Do

  • Outback Safari

We booked this Outback Safari trip in the hotel. We were picked up from the front of our hotel and then went on to pick up other passengers. We drove through the beautiful greenery of the Dominican Republic with the option of having a drink on board. Our guide, Junior, was very informative and had a great sense of humour. We drove through a...

  • Paradise Island

This is an all-day trip with an early start. But believe me, what an experience! You are picked up at your hotel and it takes around two hours to get to the next part of your journey - a speedboat! A short ride on a speedboat and there you are; on a natural island surrounded by crystal clear water. There is a hut (roof only) to put your belongings...

  • Hit the beach bars

As part of a business trip, we scheduled an (optional) activity in which we visited the beach bars. I gotta say, we got there sometime after 10PM and most of the bars were already full of a young (in body and spirit) crowd of all stratas of society, both foreigners and locals. The vibe was incredible, whether you were just passing by, bar hopping or...

  • Beach

Well, the main thing to do in Cabarete is, of course, go to the beach. It has all the 'ingredients' of a tropical beach: palm trees, fine sand, blue and warm water. Besides that it's one of the best spots for windsufing, and to the north there are a kites' and surfers' beach. The surfers' beach, called Playa Encuentro, was kind of hard to get to....

  • 'Sublime'

The best place we visited in Cabarete and everywhere was good! Fine dining on the beach on big sofa cushions. Great service from Angelo and his team of highly attentive staff. Chateaubriand with mashed potato, fillet mignon with rice, the meat just melts in your mouth and the sauces are something to die for!

  • Hmmm... like I never left home

To my surprise the beach bars in Cabarete are like South Beach, trendy and overpriced(for the area), they have big bamboo beds and pillows on the beach to lounge around and drink on, more white people than Nebraska. I choose to go across the street to the pool hall and play fooseball and drink rum and cervezas with the locals, drinks over 1/2 the...

  • great vibe, good drinks and not so...

After walking around and looking at the various beach bars, we decided to sit down and start the party at this place. It had the biggest crowd and the best music. We were a group of 8 and we sat on some sofas and chairs made of wood with a design I would call "rustic" and "timber like" and I sat on one of those big sacks hehe. The menu had a good...

The closest airport from Cabarete is Puerto Plata Gregorio Luperón, located in the nearby community of Sosúa and about 15 minutes from Cabarete. So far, the only way to transfer between the airport and Cabarete is by taxi.Cabarete is also located about 45 minutes from Puerto Plata city (PP), making it a good place to go for a daytrip if you don't...

there is this board of prices, set fees that say how much it should cost you to get from A to B. the price on the board from the puerto plata (closest airport to cabarete) was listed as $25 dollars. for one, i think this is a new increase from 20 dollars. secondly, almost everything is negotiable in this country. my friend's emailed me saying they...

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

in a space about five feet wide, he sits behind a sort of podium/counter beside a single turn rack of postcards.

What to pay: this guy was the only one who shouted out rates when you walked by that were better than on the board. honestly i was a lazy bum about it. i didn't check online rates everyday...and i didn't haggle about it with anyone. he was the easiest way to get the best rate. (everyone's sign, including his said 26 for US dollars, but he would announce 27 or 27.5 as i walked by. everyone else jusy gave me 26)

Cabarete Warnings and Dangers

  • Shooting at Serenity del Sol,...

I hope that I have not missed you yet! My husband was shot at this condo unit in February 2012 during a robbery at a condo beside ours. There is "not" 24 hour security and it is "not" 15 minutes out of Cabarete. The security guard arrived at 6:00 pm. and slept most of the time. He carried a stun gun! It is a 45-60 minute walk to Cabarete. Car...

  • Credit Cards and Sales Tax

Here's why every business in the DR doesn't want you to pay with a credit card. It's not really the fees they pay to Visa, MasterCard, etc. It's that they're cheating the government out of the sales tax by grossly under representing the true volume of their transactions. When you pay by credit, it makes it easier for the government auditors to...
