Currence & Money Exchange

by mgon6424

CURRENCY & MONEY EXCHANGEA smile opens a lot of doors on the island. The Puerto Plata area has had a lot of experience welcoming Canadians, the British, and most recently Americans; therefore, English is generally understood and spoken in the tourist areas. For those who venture into less traveled areas, remember to smile and friendliness generally paves the way! Also, be careful how much money you choose to exchange into Dominican pesos while on the island. Travelers are only allowed to change back up to 30% of one's pesos for foreign currency upon departure. You will be given exchange receipts each time you change money during your stay, so keep them if you need to change back for dollars, pounds, etcetera! If you decide to gamble in the casinos on the island, some slot machines only take U.S. dollars. Also, some casinos and churches require pants and long sleeves for men, and long...

fab weather and beaches

by ej.uk

the best activity we went on was the monster truck safari, we were taken on an 8 wheeled ex army truck through the countryside and through rivers. we stopped off in local villages in the middle of nowhere, where they all lived in wooden huts. It was good to see how they lived and survived day to day. We then stopped off for lunch at a river ranch and went swimming in thr freash water what was alot colder than the sea. Then we continued our bumpy jurney stopping off at a ladys house where she was so pleased to show us arround her wooden hut. A very good experiance by far the best memories we have are the beaches, the people we met and the sunshine, as we dont get a lot of sun where we live in england, but most of all it was our honeymoon so it will always be one of our best memories.

election fever

by skatzcatz

on one of the many walks my friends and i where doing through Santo Domingo the supporterd for Blanco drove their cars around the city. Imagine horns honking, banners, flags, hats and an assortment of election advertising. Then imagine 3 australian tourists led by 1 joining in the parade. Hopping on the back of one of the election cars and getting a free ride and a great show. One of those rare events but something i'll always remember.oh yea, i was the one who initiated the free ride and flag waving. A fnnier sight would not have been seen that day, 3 aussies waving election flags.

An absoulte must is snorkling...

by Old_Soul

An absoulte must is snorkling in Sosua bay. You take a 53' catameran and sail for about 1 1/2 hours out of Puerto Plata to Sosua bay where there are the most beautiful coral reefs. The topical fish are swim in schools all around you and the variesty of fish and ocean life is incredable. We went to supper at a little cafe called Cafe Ceito. Were the food was fabulous and the staff was just as great. They say if your in a hurry don't bother with Cafe Ceito, it will take you 3 hours to eat. But in those 3 hours you get to visit, listen to some great jazz, learn to take life alittle bit slower. We were there for 5 hours, it was the best night ever. Thanks to Tim, Danny and Less.

If you never have been there...

by Umfufu

If you never have been there you must go there. It is a very warm and friendly country. You will love the people, the weather and the music. Everywhere you go is music, the merenque! Also go for a dive and go snorkling. You will love the Dominican Republic. My best memory is the sun, the friendly people and the merenque. I really think when you are blue you have to go there. You come back home and be all in one peace again! And ofcourse the few from my hotelroom that was really great !!!!!!!!

There are beautiful beaches...

by Patricialuv

There are beautiful beaches everywhere! Warm weather every day ! You'll enjoy every minute of it! Merengue will be the type of music you'll be listening to as well as some bachata. You dance on both of these types of music and its a lot of fun. Dominican Republic also offers beautiful jewelry such as amber in all shapes and sizes, as well as other jewelry only found in the Dominican Republic!

WANTED...I also have a small...

by Ronald_T

WANTED...I also have a small problem. I am searching for a friend who I've meet there, and I hope there is somebody who can help me to find this man. The first time I was in the Dominican Republic I've met this fellow, named 'Brian'. We had a great time together, we enjoyed drinking and we forgot to exchange our addresses. So we lost each other out of site. The only thing I am sure of is that he lives in Canada. In real life he looks better then on this picture. He was reviving from a hangover ;-))) He was at the Dominican Republic in April 1998. So, when someone recognizes him, please give him a message.... This would be a fine gesture for me. Thanks in advance.
