Damajagua Cascades are 27 waterfalls (some small and some big) about 30 minutes drive from Puerto Plata.

There are two different tours: One where you climb all 27 falls (one of them should be very high!), and one where you only climb the first 7 falls. I was a chicken, so I only climbed the first 7 falls... First you climb up through the waterfalls. It's not as tough as it sounds, and the water is very refreshing freshwater from the mountains. Down the falls it's more like a water slide... Try it...

Helmets and lifejackets are required. The guides were good and professional.

You can book the tour at tour operators in Puerto Plata.

There is another option for the waterfalls, you can do the first 12. I think that option cost us about $RD 350 (about $US 8.50 per person. We bought our tickets at the waterfalls. We also tipped the very personable guides about 15% - they generally only take one group up the waterfalls per day since there are many guides but often few tourists. We have done this trip a few times and like to arrive early to be the first ones up the river. Arrive about 9AM to achive this. On our last trip, some falls had changed due to a rock moving in a flood a while back; this is a natural stream and the precise number of waterfalls is a little bit subjective.
