There is a lot to do in Puerto Plata. Just get in a cab and let you drive around. They will not ask you a lot of money (make the deal before you go) and you can have a look all day around the neighbourhood. Just a short list : Rumfactory of Brugal, The mountain, The Ambermusea, Fortaleza San Felipe, Playa grande and more and more.
In the Dominican you are free to travel. The people are nice and friendly. I have been twice to a lot of things (first in 1996 and later in 1998) and i still loved it.

There are so much to see in Dominican Republic and time is so short for holidays! If you like nature you will be serve with Pico Duarte, Los Haitises, Samana Peninsula, caves everywhere, and many others like Saona Island.
For example, in the Samana Peninsula you can find quietness, whales in season, Limon Falls, the national park Los Haitises where nature is virgin, the splendid beaches Cayo Levantado and Rincon ainsi que Playa Bonita. You can walk many kilometers into nature take horseback riding and you will still have things to do and see.

There are plenty of activities to do while at a beach resort. My favorites include scubadiving, the banana boat rides, or just plain relaxing under the sun.
At night, the restaurants and discotecs are a must!
