The only warning I'm gone give...
The only warning I'm gone give you are applying everywhere in the world. Dress without rich appearance leave your jewels at home. Be sober and friendly and stay out of the places where prostitution and criminality are the rules. Stay with the common poeple.
I have read some purpose about your arrival in an airport where two or three young man are hurrying towards your loggage and grabbing them to transport them outside. If you don't like this, tell them politely and gently. It is more efficient if you speak in spanish. Learn this phrase before going: no necessito sus servicios por favor voy a traer mis maletas.
Remember your not in your country and habits are differents. You can obtain much more by being gentle and polite than being rude. Be cool and enjoy!
Never forget that the earnings of a dominican is far from what your earn home. Don't juge their way of doing things with the eye of a northamerican poeple!
With that in mind, you will make a splendid trip and have some nice souvenirs back home. The dominicans are open minded and proud poeple. If they drive like crasy it is because they have been raised in such a competition spirit.
The weather is great but when...
The weather is great but when you go in october there can be heavy rain. They fall like showers and there is warm water coming down. But you have to be aware of it otherwise you are in the pool and then the rain is coming down....but hee it will lest no longer then 10 minutes then the clout is gone and the water too.

If there is a hurrican stay...
If there is a hurrican stay away from the sea... Do not go closer than 1 km.... Some years ago a lot of people was killed because of the hurricans. The electricity can also be away for days if it happens...
Don't run a bar tab outside of the resorts!
Although the Dominican Republic offers some beautiful resorts and beaches, and some nice people, the island also has more than its fair share of poverty and some folks (too many unfortunately) who have less than honorable intentions.
In a downtown Puerto Plata bar & grill, they asked if I wanted to run a tab. I did, only to find out my credit card was used to buy for the house or so it seemed, and OFTEN. I asked to see the manager, the police were called... it was "pay or go to jail". Were the cops in cahoots? Seems so. Then, to top it off, I was "escorted" to the ATM where I was forced to take out the max daily withdrawal for my "escorts".
Enjoy the island, but if you go off the resorts, be very careful and don't go alone!Related to:

WATCH YOUR KIDS !!!
This is something that makes me sick. This is not a place specific concern.
While at the pool I notice a little girl about 2 ? 3 yrs old. She had water wings on and was in water over 5 feet deep. There was absolutely nobody watching her. I stayed within a couple feet of her while with my son. After 30 minutes (I thought her parents would come back) I asked her if her mother was around. The girl said yes and quickly left to run to her mother. (I was a stranger so she ran away). I noticed who her parents were.
My dilemma was this; do I make an attempt to tune her parents into reality??? Or do I turn a blind eye and pray nothing happens ??? I know that if something happened to her, I would feel guilty.
I decided that I would keep an eye out for her. The next day, she was left alone in deep water for over 1 hour while her dad was at the other end of the pool reading a magazine. He looked for her every 20 ? 30 minutes. Her mother was sleeping on a pool chair the whole time.
The following day an announcements was made that parents must watch their kids and not leave them alone in the pool. Guess what??.
A friend of her family walked to the edge of the pool to check up on her?.it took 3 minutes for him to find her. When he did, he said to the father, ?oh she is with my son? (who was about 4 ? 5 years old). He went back to his chair and they ignored the kids for another hour.
PEOPLE WATCH YOUR KIDS?..AN ALL INCLUSIVE DOES NOT MEAN THEY WILL WATCH OUT FOR YOUR KID.
I took the opportunity to speak very loud to my wife (loud enough for the parents to hear).
I mentioned how parents that do not look after their kids in situations like that should have family services take their children away from them. That is neglect as far as I am concerned.Related to:

There it’s a lot to do about...
There it’s a lot to do about the risks at the Dominican Republic. When you arrive over there, be alert for pickpockets and real violence when you go outside the resort, and sorry to say that, it is necessary. But I never had any kind of problems there because I always took a guard with me from the resort who was free that evening. So, beware of your money, put it on a save place when your going outside, and watch out for the children, there have nimble fingers and your money is gone before you know it.
There is a lot of tarantulas...
There is a lot of tarantulas and snakes on the island... But they are not dangerous!!!! There is no animals you have to be aware of on this island.... Is not that great????!!!!
