You can easily rent a car at Dominican Republic. But be careful when driving as in this beautifull country the traffic regultions don't exist or are not respected. Unless you rent a car with the driver :)

You can get to Las Terrenas by car, driving mountainous road with many hairpin curves or by plane. You can fly from Punta Cana, Puerto Plata and Santo Domingo by Santo Domingo Air to El Portillo, located 10 km east from Las Terrenas.
If the distance you want to pass is quite short I advice to take motor called in Dominican Republic "motoconchos". They are all around... You will love it! Just remember to agree the fee befor you will start your "journey"...

#6 MOVING AROUND BY CAR RENTAL: By far the best way to move about, if you have experience driving in Italy, Paris, Germany and many other fast driving countries, this would actually be just a bit faster but surely equal, if you are just learning to drive or come from the U.S. forget it ! , Road signs are marked as the U.S. and in some instances as in Europe, Also the speed and distanced is posted in kilometers instead of miles, yet the gallon is the measure in gasoline pumps(Go Figure that one out) for the most part is the faster you go the sooner you'll get to your destination, but it's recomended to drive deffensively, expect to be overtaken and cut in some instances in major highways, avoid driving at night(locals rarely do) in highways or to and from rural towns. On top left is a sign common in the major highways, it lets you know when you are approaching a rest area, where food,...

#5 MOVING AROUND IN MOTORCYCLES:This is the last form of transportation many locals take due to hardships or lack of service to some places in the rural areas, it's showing up in the cities as well due to it's cost and value, however it's very dangerous to ride not only because 90% lack helmets or proper common sense when riding, but because automobile drivers don't pay much attention to them on the road and are prong to get involved in accidents which in the majority of cases brings about fatalities. This is the infamous "Motoconcho" or Mototaxi, it's very popular with the people that live in the shanty towns, and on the city because of how cheap theY charge to transport at short distances, but as you can see not even the driver uses a helmet, let alone the passenger, this accounts for over 60% of the total traffic fatalities, and traumatic head injuries.

OKThis is the famous "Concho" or "Carro" the name changes as you travel from city to city, but the system is pretty much the same, the more rural the town you're in, the more beat-up the car or what's left of it, sometimes I'm amazed how they keep them from falling apart when they hit a pothole!#4 MOVING AROUND BY CONCHO OR CARRO:These "Conchos" Or "Carros" are in fact the most widely used form of transportation in urban areas in most major cities around the country, they can easily be identified by the color of their "Capota" the top of the car, also they have the letter of the route they serve printed on the side of their doors along the permit seal as well, they operate a given route picking up passengers up to six to a car, seating on front and back, to stop them one only flags them down and gets in, and call your stop wherever you need to be dropped off, you share the vehicle with...
