The people of Suchitoto and the slow pace of life are what I enjoy most about Suchitoto. This combined with the many places to go and eat, drink and dance as well as cultural events through out the year is why I have come to call Suchitoto home. Its safe at night and one can find food and lodging from very simple and inexpensive up to very luxurious. If you want to get away from it all come to Suchitoto and stay a couple of days or make it your base to explore El Salvador and Central America.
Fondest memory: The bird reserve on the lake(Isla de los Pajaros), boat trip cost around $20.00 per boat, up to 12 people per boat. 40-60 minute boat ride on lake Suchitlan, circleing the island where many species of water birds are seen all year around. Great place to take photos...
Favorite thing: This year(2002) an internet cafe opened on the south side of the Central Plaza of Suchitoto. As we came into town the first day, I saw this very modern storefront and thought at first that it was a bank. Behind the floor to ceiling tinted glass storefront and door was an armed uniformed guard much like you would see at a bank. However, the name Infocentro suggested something else. This is probably the only airconditioned building in Suchitoto which is really nice in the summer. You check in at the carpeted front desk and you are escorted around the corner to banks of highspeed computers. Once you figure out the Hispanic keyboard, you are ready to receive your email or surf the Net. I can't remember the rate but I think I was there for over an hour and only paid $1.50US.
