 | San Salvador Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 36 | | The restaurant is constructed to resemble a treehouse. There is an upstairs terrace that I recommend dining on instead of eating inside. Even during the rainy season, it is covered by large leaves, sort of like a thatched roof, and stays dry. (We visited July 31-Aug 5, 2003, and it rained! A lot!) Anyway, we are going back this July (2005) and all I have been talking about is going to La Ola. It is very near the Princess Hotel, within a few minutes walking distance, although we took a taxi since it was pouring and we had our 5 month old. The seafood is very fresh, which was one of my concerns before I went there. My husband is from ES and every time he goes back he gets sick, so I was worried my tender tummy might not take it. Not to worry, it was awesome, we visited La Ola 3 of the nights we were there. If you are ordering a chilled dish, the wait time may be longer than expected because the fish is not cooked until you order it, then it needs time to chill. They have a fantastic Coctel de Camaron con Aguacate (shrimp cocktail with avocado) that is SOOOOOOOO good. It is creamy, and probably really fattening, but to die for. I tried to reproduce it at home, with pretty good results... tastes like avocado, a little onion powder, a little cayenne pepper, a dollop of mayonaisse, and large shrimp, all mixed up into a chunky, creamy concoction. They also have a seafood cocktail with squid and other various seafood in a spicy red sauce. I didn't like it much, but it was a favorite of the others in my party. The ceviche is really good too.

Why on earth would you travel to a country 4000 miles away and go to a Pizza Hut when there are so many great local cuisine restaurants to try? That was my thought when I went to this place 3 years ago. I have been there twice since and it has been great every time. When you pull into the parking lot you will first notice 2-3 armed and uniformed security guards in the lot...typical of ES. When you enter the immaculately clean and brightly appointed restaurant you will be greeted by one if not two great hosts that will determine your need and get you quickly to the table. All of the employees are decked out in clean, crisp attractive uniforms and every detail right down to the proper name badge is consistant throughout the restaurant. The supervisors are all wired with headsets and monitor the activity in the restaurant so that nothing fails. We have always had a birthday person in our groups and the Pizza Hut crew does a great job with singing and other props that I will not give away here! When you leave you will all get free mints.
The pizza is great... better than any Pizza Hut or for that matter any other chain pizza place that I have been to. The salad bar is bountiful and attractive particularly if you have been avoiding fresh vegetables and salad elsewhere in the country for health reasons. Several people in our group of 19 had another Italian dishes like rigatoni and it was good

Yes, I know that you don't come to El Salvador to eat American food. But sometimes you just feel homesick. It is right around the corner (walking distance) from Hotel Princess in Zona Rosa.
They have great frozen drinks. Leave a Comment Theme: AmericanPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Blvd. Del Hipódromo Col. San Benito, Zona RosaPhone: 298-5050Other Contact: Fax 224-4201

They have TVs around the restaurant for watching soccer.
I think I had grilled chicken or steak. They serve it with different sauces that were very good. I ate here several times! one of the most traditional salvadoran specialities. Corn dough tortillas stuffed with your choice of cheese, pork or beans, served with spicy cabbage and tomatoe sauce. On just about every block whether residential or business, you'll find a tiny restaurant in someone's living room, back yard or porch. Don't be afraid to try the homecooking there. The menu will be limited but the tortillas, pupusas (Salvador's most famous local dish -- a soft tortilla with pork or cheese cooked inside), or other treats will likely be tasty and cheap!
