On just about every block whether residential or business, you'll find a tiny restaurant in someone's living room, back yard or porch. Don't be afraid to try the homecooking there. The menu will be limited but the tortillas, pupusas (Salvador's most famous local dish -- a soft tortilla with pork or cheese cooked inside), or other treats will likely be tasty and cheap!

Pollo Campero
http://www.campero.com/
Don't ask me why but people just love this chicken. On the plane from San Salvador to Houston almost everyone was bringing boxes and boxes of Pollo Campero back to their loved ones.
Favorite Dish: Fried Chicken
Also try the 'pechugitas' which are chicken tenders

One of the better restaurants in San Salvador is El Bodegon. Not a 'large' restaurant, but located on the Escalon, it offers some of the best prepared food in town. The atmosphere is refined and elegant, without a lot of noise. The staff attends to your every need, and the food is served in a relaxed, yet timely manner.
Favorite Dish: Aside from the great seafood specials, I prefer the 'Punta Jalapena', which is a tender piece of meat (along the lines of a Filet Mignon), smothered in a jalopena pepper cream, containing cooked onions. It is a mouth watering treat for anyone who enjoys a great steak with just the right amount of spice added.

I don't remember eating here at all. I went to Karaoke on a Saturday night. They have both Spanish songs and English. I think Texas Ranch is a steakhouse and the Karaoke is right next door.

They have TVs around the restaurant for watching soccer.
Favorite Dish: I think I had grilled chicken or steak. They serve it with different sauces that were very good. I ate here several times!
