 | Santa Ana Transportation | Tips 1 - 2 of 2 | | Popular Transportation | Other Transportation Tips | All Tips (2) To get to Copán when coming from Santa Ana, it is best to leave El Salvador in it northwest and to go through Guatemala before entering Honduras. This is the same if you want to go to the north of Guatemala. The bordercrossing you will take is at the village of Anguiatú. From Santa Ana, you have to go to the Parque Colón, at 14a Avenida Sur and 13a Calle Poniente. Here you can take the bus heading for Metapán. A -very nice- trip through the west of the country takes you there in 1,5 hours (costs $ 1,00). In Metapán you have to change busses and with a small bus you can go until "La Frontera", the border. This will take another 15 minutes and again a few cents. At the border you have to take another minibus to Chiquimula in Guatemala (45 minutes). From there you can take a bus to Copán or to elsewhere in Guatemala. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

If you want to go to Guatemala City, and the rest of southern Guatemala, while coming from Santa Ana, you have to go to the border crossing at Valle Nuevo. From Santa Ana, it takes about an hour to get there. First of all you have to catch the bus to the nearby village with the lovely name Ahuachapán. These busses depart in the southwest of the city, at the central busstation. This station is around the 12a Avenida Sur and the 15a Calle Poniente. A ride takes about 40 minutes and costs $ 0,60. From Ahuachapán, you can catch a minibus that will take you to the border. Don't look for a bus to Valle Nuevo (because that is in Guatemala and the bus will not go there) but ask for "La Frontera", the border. This trip takes another 20 to 30 minutes and costs only a few cents again. Here they will drop you off at the border, where you only have to cross the bridge to enter Guatemala.
