Packing for a one day cruise ship stop

by Dabs

If you plan on going to any of the falls where they allow you to swim, bring a swimsuit and a towelIf you are going hiking to anything more strenuous than Annandale Falls, you'll want to bring shoes with good treads, they suggest hiking boots for longer walks, closed toe sandals for medium range walks and sandals with straps for shorter trips. I was fine with strapped sandals for Seven Sisters but they were very muddy when I was done. White is not a good color to wear for the hike to Seven Sisters if it's rained recently Sunscreen is a must for me whenever traveling to warm destinations, the few spots I missed were as red as a tomato Bring extra money for entrance fees, tips, spices and rumWater, if not provided by your guide

It's hot...

... so don't bring too much clothes. And definitely no warm ones. At the maximum you can get one tropical rain every day, and normally it lasts for less than five minutes. Then it goes back to +35 degrees again. So, shorts, a t-shirt is basicly all you need. Use light shoes, as you otherwise will get very warm feet... If you want to go tracking in the rainforest, bring other shoes for that, as it's quite muddy. And if you stay on a boat, remember to take off your shoes and don't use them onboard as you might bring some bugs from the beach/city to the boat. And you don't want to do that... Sunscreen!!!! We, nine pale swedes, started with sunscreen number 45, 50 for the face. After a week we went down to 30, and then to 15. Last three days I went without any protection, although that is probably not anything I would recommened to one and everyone... Remember we stayed on a boat out in...

Hurricane?

by Ash59

We went in October which is, theoretically, in the hurricane season. Luckily, we only had rain on 3 days out of the 6 that we spent on this wonderful island and each downpour did not last for more than an hour. Anyway, the last hurricane that hit Grenada was back in 1954. However, the point of telling you this is that, if you go in the rainy season, you may want to take an umbrella. Seems a weird item to take to a place that has a minimum temperature of 75 degrees faranheit, even in the rain, but it can be useful if the place that you are staying at does not provide them. Mosquito repellant, although it may be used to other flying insects away more than mosquitos'. During the day it is perfectly o.k. to wear shorts and tee shirts. Most eating places expect long trousers and shirts to be worn for evening meals.

ClothingCasual, light cottons are ideal during the day; in the evenings, semi-formal attire is appropriate. Bathing suits or mini shorts should not be worn in the streets or stores. Long pants and hiking shoes are recommended for hiking.

If you are planning to go hiking, it's worth taking both Tevas (or the like) for the easy walks (especially for the waterfalls as it's great not having to change shoes and dry feet) and proper walking boots for the forests - which can be very, very muddy! Insect repellent for mosquitos and sandflies (around dusk)

Pack light! A backpack or bag with shoulder strap is best. Rolling luggage will NOT help you here - You will be hopping on and off boats and docks, and the docks and roads are not smooth. Suggest One carry-on. Minimum 2 bathing suits (you'll live in these, 1 to wear and 1 to dry), shorts, sandals. Buy your tee's there, they're cheap! And summer dresses are a steal in the Grenadine Islands. Shorts (not too short, they are modest people in these islands), water shoes/sandals are a must, tee's or clothing that breathes and dries quickly! Take a hat or hooded rainjacket that will pack small/light and go in your daypack. There are occasional burst of rain that are similar to standing in your shower. We even whipped out a bar of soap during one rainshower and stood on deck and lathered up. The rain is very refreshing and everything smells lovely following (especially those doing the lathering...

Mosquito Repellent or Suffer!

by NiciJ

You really want to have a good mozzie repellent, especially if you are travelling in the (cheaper!) wet season.

Sand Flies!

by dbeatty

OFF! doesn't work on sand flies. Buy some of the local "All Natural" Citronella bug spray. It's the only thing we found that worked. Or...bring your own.
