Art Fabrik: Beautiful One-Off Batik Shop

by DreamingSpain

Art Fabrik is a beautiful cornucopia of colour, warmth, texture and style. Created by two women with a dream to bring the finer aspects of Batik to the beautiful island of Grenada, Art Fabrik creates a warm, welcoming, embracing environment in which to sample these extraordinary designs. Hand designed and created clothes for adults and children. From 20EC$ to several hundreds depending on what you choose

Tikal: Tikal - Grenada's Gorgeous Gift Shop

by DreamingSpain

Tikal is just sublime. You enter, and it's like being hugged. Every single piece of "merchandise" has a wonderful story to tell. The staff are unobtrusive but helpful to a fault. The prices are fair and reasonable. The goods are heavenly. An absolute MUST.If you can't find it, it's just up the hill from St George's Museum on the same side of the road. Gifts, post cards, art, clothes, hats, fans and jewellery plus MUCH more As much or as little as you wish. You MUST bear in mind that Grenada has to pay huge taxes, therefore please don't go there expecting to find something exquisite for 5EC$ - it's unrealistic and unfair to the locals who have to live on an island that must import most of its essentials.Whatever you spend in Tikal, realise that Jean, the owner, is one of the fairest minded, just, honest and decent people you could ever hope to imagine, and that your money will go where it...

Various: Shopping near the ship port

by Dabs

Around the port area there are booths set up selling local crafts and goods, since Grenada is the spice island we stopped and bought a few spice samplers to bring home as gifts. If you buy whole nutmeg, they will give you a grater to go along with it, you have to crack the dark brown outer shell to get at the lighter brown nut that is nutmeg spice. Also in most of the gift baskets are cinnamon, cloves, mace, bay leaves and saffron which is actually tumeric. Mace is also part of the whole nutmeg, it's the dried "lacy" reddish covering of the seed.

Saffron Alert

by bekssa

I was very excited when I saw the cheap prices for saffron. After we got home, I did some research and discovered why. The saffron that we pay an arm & leg for in the store is not the same as sold in Grenada. The spice labelled saffron in Grenada is actually turmeric, which is a wonderful spice--just not quite the major bargain it appears to be when you believe you are getting "real" saffron! You can much better deals on spices if you go outside of the mall. However, be warned that everyone wants your business so be prepared to say no thank you a LOT. The very best prices we found were from the vendors up the street. There were lots of them and again you will get tired of saying no thank you but you'll find a deal. We also bought a big bottle of vanilla for what seemed like a very good price but it might as well be vanilla flavored water. No kick to it whatsoever.

THE ESPLANADE MALL: SOUVENIR CENTRAL

by DAO

If they don’t sell it here, they don’t make it. This very large mall right next to the cruise ship dock has about any sort of souvenir or gift you want. Shops inside sell a variety of electronics, jewellery, gift items, local crafts, alcohol, and fragrances. You can also buy a huge variety of Bob Marley items including lighters (big surprise) and underwear. Prices can sometimes be stupidly high for some items here. There are some other ‘shops’ just outside who are a little better to haggle the price with. Inside the mall is also a VERY fast and VERY expensive internet service. The Tourist Board also has an office here and they are excellent. If you need a cold beer, there is a bar, but that’s another tip!OPENING HOURS: 9am – 7 pm Monday – Saturday. Closed Sundays & Holidays

Val U Garden: Shopping For Produce

by TuanRonski

This shop specializes in vegetables and fruits, and seems to have better quality and quantity than the supermarkets.Other shops in the Excel Plaza Shopping Center include:Body Image Health Club - Gym, Aerobics, Tai BoCable & WirelessChef's Castle Restaurant & Bakery Going Places - Travel AgencyHead over Heels - Ladies AccessoriesMNIB Valu GardenMitchell's Wellness Centre - PharmacyPresents - Gifts and SouvenirsTCBY - Ice Cream, Forzen Yoghurt and DessertsSmith's of Grenada - Ladies Clothing and AccessoriesDr. Yaw - Dentist We purchased watermelon and bananas here; our friends purchased eggs, yams, tomatoes, etc. Vegetables and fruits are quite expensive in Grenada now, since most have to be imported from St. Lucie or St. Vincent. We paid $10 US for a 10# watermelon, and about 50 cents per pound for bananas.

Food Fair: Groceries After Ivan

by TuanRonski

Food Fare on the Carenage in St. Georges probably has the greatest selection of groceries- including cheeses and meats- and a good variety of Rum and other alcoholic beverages. The 'special items' are spices and Rums.Food Fair has a great selection of individually packaged spices (ground and unground). They also sell Spice Gift Packs that contain an ounce or so of Ginger, Nutmeg, Saffron, Cinnamon, and Clove, which make great gifts for friends back home. This is also the place to buy cokes, beer, bottled water, plastic utensils, etc. at a much cheaper price than you pay at the resorts. The Assorted Spice Gift Pack costs a little less than $6 US. Canned coke is about 80 cents. Bottled water is about 75 cents.

Grand Anse Vendors Market: Souvenirs!

by LisaMJ

It is apparently illegal for you to be approached by vendors in Grenada - they class it as harrassment.Instead a vendors maret area was opened near Grand Anse Beach, just up the way from the Grenada Grand Beach Resort Hotel, selling all the souvenirs you could want. Nutmeg syrup, spices, hot sauce to name but a few.

Art Fabrik: Good for gifts

by Rachael71

Art Fabrik is an excellent craft shop situated near the museum in St. George's. It specialises in batik work, and you can watch the artists producing batik when you visit. The batik is used to make wall hangings, clothes, purses etc., all for purchase. Other items for sale include candles, pictures, food, locally produced potions and lotions and ornaments. Prices are very reasonable when compared to some of the shops we saw in the malls. We got some great souvenirs here, and even did a bit of Christmas shopping! Look for things produced using local spices - there are some nice bath products scented with cinnamon and nutmeg. From a few cents upwards, it suits all pockets.
