Souvenirs: Villa Creole
Better luck with souvenirs here, although still more than you would pay anywhere else. I do love the Made in St. Barth's clothing, though! There were these great beaded, embroidered cotton tunics and ruffled skirts, that were so nice, I had to have them!
The capital of St. Barth's, Gustavia is the main shopping area. You will find many designer shops, all the big names are here. There's also a cigar shop, and the vanilla rum shop. I usually don't buy souvenir t-shirts, but there were some really nice embroidered ones, so I couldn't resist.
Lolita Jaca St. Barths: Where a "Geisha" goes to shop
St. Barths is renowned as being one of the Caribbean's glitziest resort destinations with premier shopping. It's a Duty-Free island and the main port of Gustavia is the island's central shopping haven.
The array of prestigious designers are all lined up along three main streets in Gustavia----but what I loved about the layout of this area is that you can pick up a Birkin bag at Hermes or the Jeanne bag at the Dior boutique, and just two doors down you can pick up your 10 Euro "I 'heart" St. Barths" T-shirt at the souvenir shop. From beachwear to couture, the island caters to the fashion and lifestyle to all kinds of customers. It's as chic as any boutique along the Place Vendome in Paris without all the pretentiousness.
It was great exploring the shops and meeting the merchants who loved hearing all about who you were and where you were from. You can browse at your leisure and they were always willing to help you pick out the perfect style for you.
Lolita Jaca has a boutique located at Les Hauts Carre D'Or in Gustavia.
The designs all have an ethnic and Asian inspiration (with a "Geisha Twist!") and definitely enhance the femininity. I loved her elegant and creative designs ....with comfortable fabrics that keep you cool in the hot Caribbean sun, yet look elegant and chic.
The salesperson was very knowledgeable and gave a demo on how to properly wrap the latest 'Kimono' collection. Perfect fit for any "Geisha!"
What to buy: An array of French designers can be found at the shop....the style is more "hippie-chic" than haute couture. If you're into the designs by "Antik Batik" you'll appreciate Lolita Jaca.
The quaint shop is small enough to be able to browse in a matter of minutes, but well stocked with lots of merchandise (she tucks all the styles and sizes in a strategically placed closet hidden behind the walls).
What to pay: You can save around 20-30% if you happen to catch the end of season sales. The kimono-inspired blouses and dresses range anywhere from 120 Euros on up.
Geisha Vampire St. Barths: ......where a "Geisha Vampire" goes to shop???!!
As we were making our away around the shops in downtown Gustavia, my friends immediately drew my attention to this sign hanging above us. GEISHA VAMPIRE??? I knew I just had to check out this shop.
The boutique is located in the very hip Les Hauts Carre D'or shopping center surrounded by shops like Tod's, Louis Vuitton, and Roberto Cavalli. This shop had a funkier flavor of clothing compared to the rest, with clothing from some of the current top, trendy European designers.
They even have their own line of glitzy "Geisha Vampire" embroidered T-shirts and Tanks.
I think the most memorable part of shopping at this place was the Sales gal. She was as funky as the clothing she sold and so entertaining! This native Parisian shared her adventures of how she left Paris a couple of years ago (where, as she exclaims, "loathes the Parisian minds over there, baby!") and found her heart in St. Barths and hasn't returned since. She only leaves the island temporarily (during the slow season) but chooses not to return to Paris but prefers the islands of Thailand during the hiatus where she connects more with the locals there and feels more freedom.
The conversations on top of the funky cool clothes are enough reason to return to this shop!
What to buy: They sell both men and women's clothing---stylish casual clothes. Great choices of styles for hitting the nightlife on the island!
What to pay: It's an upscale boutique, but when the items go on sale, you can score some really great deals.
