The precious mineral then allowed the preservation of meat and saltfish. In the middle of the 19th century, industrial operation began. The salt was crushed with a mill, using a steam boiler of which no trace is left nowadays. The last salt extraction took place in 1961. Leave a Comment

Avoir eu plus de temps, je me serait arretı ı Grand Casse. Il s'agit d'un village de pıcheurs et l'atmosphere y est trıs amicale. On y retrouve quelques restaurants mais il ne s'agit clairement pas encore d'un secteur touristique, d'oı son charme.
On y est passı en autobus lors de notre retour de la Baie l'Orient et je sentais que je manquais quelquechose. Leave a Comment

On a return trip to St. Maarten in 2005, two of our tablemates took a local ferry from Marigot to the island of Anguilla, spending most of the day driving the island. Not much excitement there, but some nice beaches if you're looking for sun and sand. The ferry to Anguilla is inexpensive (around $10pp) and takes about 15-20 minutes in each direction. The current schedule appears to be every 45 minutes during the day and evening. Leave a Comment
