Markets of Basse Terre and Pointe a Pitre: Colourful Markets
While the market in Pointe a Pitre is more devoted to tourists, the one in Basse Terre is smaller and should be more "authentic". (But I cannot say if it is true or not)...There is a separate part for fruit stalls and in front of the sea you have stalls for fishermen. And of course you have the "tourist" part with souvenirs, spices and all varieties of punch. Assortment of spices - either to make a Colombo or flavour other dishes.Punch - from whatever fruit grows on the islands, with rhum added. And Madras - the colourful tissues (something like scottish tissue with colors) - either as children dresses or nice dolls.
