This is not the cave where the bats fly out at night (different tour). This cave is on your way to the pools. You pay a small fee to enter with a guide. Be ready for an experience that you will always remember the rest of your life. It starts off in about shin high water. LOL. I cant tell you the rest because I dont want to ruin the experience. Just do it. I promise once you walk back out of the cave, your eyes will be wide open. You cant go to Guatemala without going into this cave. It was one of the many highlights from my trip there. Bring water shoes (no flip flops) or borrow some that are left at the entrance. Also, try to bring a disposable waterproof camera (not a digital expensive camera). One thing I wish I had was photos of this adventure.

LOCATED NEAR THE BRIDGE JUST A WALK AWAY DOWN THE RIVER BANKS IS A PLACE WHERE YOU HAVE TO SIGN IN BEFORE GOING UP THE STEPS INTO THE CAVES. BUT YOU MUST HAVE A GUIDE WITH YOU FOR THIS ONE.

I DIDN'T ACTUALLY GO INTO THE CAVE AS IT WAS FILLED WITH WATER AND I'M SCARED OF WATER AS I CAN'T SWIM BUT I KNOW THAT YOU MUST USE SOME SHOES PROVIDED AT THE HOUSE TO HELP YOU WALK ON THE ROCKS, PLUS YOU'RE BETTER OFF CHANGING INTO SHORTS AS THE CAVERN IS FILLED WITH COLD WATER YOU HAVE TO WALK IN. YOU'LL BE PROVIDED WITH A CANDLE TO HELP YOU SEE IN THE DARK.

IN CASE YOU NEED ONE, INFLATABLE LIFEBOUYS ARE PROVIDED AT THE HOUSE.

OR YOU COULD GO SWIMMING, JUST MAKE SURE YOU GOT SOME SHORTS AND A TOWEL IN YOUR BACKPACK WITH YOU. ONLY SWIM IN THE CENTRAL POOLS THOUGH AS THEY ARE THE SAFEST, AND DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE FISH AS THEY'RE HARMLESS.

WHEN YOU WALK IN THE POOLS MAKE SURE YOU WEAR SANDALS AS THE ROCKS ARE JAGGED AND WALK CAREFULLY COS YOU COULD SUSTAIN NASTY INJURIES IF YOU FALL OR SLIP. MAKE SURE YOUR SANDALS DON'T ACCIDENTLY COME OF YOUR FEET OR THE WATER CURRENT MIGHT TAKE THEM AWAY.

WHEN WALKING UP TO THE MIRADOR THERE ARE MUD IN PLACES SO BE CAREFUL NOT TO SLIP.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: YOU WILL MORE LIKELY NEED SANDALS TO HELP YOU WALK ON THE ROCKS.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: INSECT REPELLENT AS THERE ARE BUGS PRESENT.

Photo Equipment: YEP, SEMUC CHAMPEY IS VERY PHOTOGENIC SO YOU MIGHT WANNA BRING A CAMERA WITH YOU.

Miscellaneous: BRING ALONG SHORTS AND A TOWEL IF YOU INTEND TO SWIM IN THE POOLS.
