Tecpán Guatemala

    Tecpán Guatemala Favorites

I know the owners pretty well of that hotel, it's close to the middle of town; the water problem is due to the municipal water is only on for part of the day. I usually stay with family in tecpan but you can't beat the location to the market. President bush stayed there on a tour of Guatemala. I'm pretty much family with just about all the butchers...

  • Cozy restaurant on the your trip North

    Tecpán Guatemala Restaurants

Nice and clean, the food is very good. You can stop by for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The staff is outstanding and very friendly. I would have to say the omelets were my favorite, you see I missed omelets so much this was all I was pretty much ordering. And this place had the best omelets.

  • Katok.

    Tecpán Guatemala Restaurants

This restaurant is the stop for all the tourist tours going to Atitlan lake, and althougt is very touristic the local food is good. Sausages with tortillas and great avocado salad.

  • Hot and cold.

    Iximché What to Pack

As in almost all parts of the western highlands the climate can change from hot during the day to chilly at night, so bring warm clothes and a rain coat in the winter time (heavy rains) from may to september.

  • Bus

    Iximché Transportation

You can reach Tecpan by bus, there are several buses from Antigua, Chimaltenango or the city, and then a nice walk through pine tree forests (5 kms) from Tecpan. Some tours to Atiltlan lake or Chichicastenango market make a short stop at the site.

  • Museum.

    Iximché Things to Do

The site has a small museum and as in almost all parts of Guatemala, there are handicrafts stalls. The fee entrance is 23 quetzales for tourists (4$).

Favorite thing: I enjoyed walking the trails that lead to different areas at the archeological park. The views of the surrounding valleys are wonderful and panoramic. Do bring sunscreen and enjoy your stay.

Fondest memory: The archeological park offers a picnic area and is a wonderful place to spend time with the family and friends.

  • Patzun Church small chapel.

    Patzùn Things to Do

This small chapel is located next to the main church, and is used as the town catholic church due to the restoration of the main cathedral, it was open and a mass was celebrated when we arrived.

  • Patzun Church.

    Patzùn Things to Do

This beautiful church located in the Parque Central (Main Plaza) is a colonial church now under restoration (so it´s closed). The Patzun area was part of the Ix¡mché Kingdom, but in 1540 the Franciscans arrived and started to built the church. They also brought the image of St Bernardino the patron saint of town. I found the church quite impressive...

  • Patzun Municipality.

    Patzùn Things to Do

The municipality is located in the Main Plaza in front of the church and is a beautiful example of neoclassical architecture.

  • Comalapa Murals

    Comalapa Things to Do

The people of San Juan Comalapa have chronicled their history and suffering in mural paintings on the cemetery walls at the entrance of their city. My wife's mother perished in the earthquake here in 1976, so there are sections of the murals that were really emotionally touching to us.

  • Naif Art galleries.

    Comalapa Things to Do

Comalapa is very famous for it´s naif art, there are a lot of art galleries of this type of painting, and some of the painters like Andres Curruchiche are local celebrities. Here a nice painting of Comalapa´s church celebration by Omar Bal.

  • Comalapa´s San Juan Church.

    Comalapa Things to Do

This church located at the main plaza, is a beautiful example of the colonial architecture with indian touch, the church was badly damaged during the 1974´s earthquake, and is closed waiting for a restoration, a new church with no interest was built beside the cathedral.
