Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Wear good shoes when you climb the volcano. First of all, during your climb up to the crater, it can be slippery and steep. Second of all, when you walk on the lava in the crater the surface can be very rough and unequal, and third of all: the lava can still be warm when you walk over it. If you wear shoes with thin soles, this might even warm up your feet. Thick soles are welcome here!

Photo Equipment: You will probably know the feeling: you never drop your photo camera, but when you are taking pictures out of a window in a train, or on top of a tall building, you get afraid it will slip out of your hands.

That feeling I got when I was walking on the lava in the crater. The surface is rough and there are deep holes in it, so dropping your camera will definitely be the end of it. Therefore it is wise to carry with a string around your neck: makes it a lot less stressfull.

Miscellaneous: Already on your way to the volcano, but especially as soon as you get out of the bus, you will be asked to rent a walking stick to help you during your walks. In the bus they still ask $ 0,50 for a stick, as soon as you are outside the local youth attacks you, offering their sticks desperately for $ 0,05.

It really is a good help during your walk, especially when you are walking on the lava in the crater.
