a few kilometers from Huehuetenango are located the little-known Mam ruins at Zaculeu. The site includes various temples, plazas and a ball court. The most regrettable aspect of the ruins is that the United Fruit Company attempted to restore the ruins in the late 40's but did a miserable job of it. All the buildings were covered with a thick layer of white plaster...which over the years has become a dirty gray. You can see the original stonework here and there though. The site is not very large and can be visited in a couple of hours. The museum is also worth a quick visit as it explains who the Mam were and exhibits a number of interesting pieces of art.

The cemetery in Huehuetenango is really a cool experience. There wasn't much to do in the town, but it was really beautiful. Im not sure how it compares to other Guatemala cemetaries, but it was great none the less.
