there is a turtle research center in mote rico.
every saturday they let baby turtles out in to the ocean.
for a 1 dollar donation you can sposor your own baby turtle.
you get to hold him for a few minutes before you let him out in the ocean.
if your turtle get's out before the other turtles you will be awarded with a free meal in a local restaurant.

If you are in Monte Rico, a boat tour through the mangoves is a thing to do. Although you have a little change of seeing a croc, you will see lot's of birds and if you are in the summer lot's of butterfies (those you will see anywhere in central america and mexico during summer, millions of them)'. And strange fish, very strange fish.
The best way is to take a tour with one of the local guys, they will take you early in the morning on a boat, and there is no motor on it, so you won't disturb any wildlife.
But there is one important thing, wear long pants, put on lot's of reppellent and take it with you, cause it is mozzie kingdom out there.

Monterrico it´s an important turtle nesting ground. You can see the turtles at nigth, an amazing sperience.

Monte Rico, a swamp filled with wild life
We went to Monte Rico because we rad that there was a swamp and that the leather backs layed their eggs on the beach there. Unfortuanatly we didn't see the leatherbacks, but the swamp was there so...
yes- guatemala has nice beaches
monte rico is one of the quite unknown treasures of guatemala. it's a little unspoiled beach with few tourists and a good atmosphere. go there before it's too late
Monterrico it´s located in the Pacific Ocean, a two and a half hours ride from the city. Black sand beaches, and one of the main turtle nesting ground in the area.
Guatemala's best beach! In order to make it to the beach you have to cross the canal, after that it is just a few minutes into town.
