We had read good reviews of Frida’s on both VT and elsewhere and as it was just up the road from our hotel we were keen to try it for ourselves – and we were not disappointed. Frida’s is a Mexican restaurant themed around the life and work of Frida Kahlo, although the décor is such an eclectic mix that the theme is lost in places. On entering the restaurant looks pretty small but it widens out so there’s more room than you might think; nevertheless this is a popular spot so come early to be sure of getting a table, or be prepared to have a drink at the small bar while you wait (no great hardship – the cocktails are good and reasonably priced, and the beer is well chilled).
Favorite Dish: We ordered chips and guacamole to share as an appetiser. The portion was generous and the guacamole chunky and evidently home-made – delicious! I accompanied this with an excellent Cosmopolitan while Chris had a cool Gallo.
For mains I chose the chicken enchilada in molé sauce, as I had never had the latter. It was tasty but very filling! Chris had quesadillas which he enjoyed – indeed he said later that this was the best meal he had in Guatemala! With another couple of Gallos (one each) the bill came to 260 Q with service, which we felt was very reasonable.

This restaurant is a first-class eating establishment. It has a great ambiance to it, with memorabilia all around the walls from Frida Khalo's life and times. The waitstaff are fun and kind, and the restaurant has a good blend of locals and tourists, always a good sign in my book. And the food is top rate. Fresh ingredients, wide menu choices (vegetarian and omnivorous), good drink menu.
Favorite Dish: I had an appetizer of guacamole and chips, which was prepared fresh and was so succulent I ate it all before the dinner came. Dinner was chicken flautas, which were crispy and topped with a tomatillo sauce and fresh queso. To go alongside was a mojito, made with fresh mint and very tasty.

Well it's written up in all of the guidebooks and if one is looking for decent Mexican food in Antigua then this is the place to go. Great atmosphere although I'm guessing it can get pretty rowdy on the weekends judging from the promotional beer posters, flags, etc. that partially adorn the interior. But the restaurant is actually devoted to the artist, Frida Kahlo, and the colors and paintings definitely reflect that. Upon being seated one has the feeling of being in someone's living room. Food is pretty decent (I had the carne asada tacos) and the beer cold.
Favorite Dish: Carne asada tacos

Frida's is a neat Mexican cafe/restaurant in the heart of Antigua. We stopped in for a light lunch and were rejuvenated. The place was filled with mostly young gringos but with some locals as well. All seemed to be laughing and having a good time. It was the most lively of all the restaurants I visited.
Favorite Dish: We ordered soup and house salad. Both were tasty and fresh and the service was good.
