With over 200 dogs and nearly 100 cats they always need help with anything from building dog-runs or putting up fences to bathing, brushing, or walking dogs, providing some human company for both the dogs and the cats, or helping out with the educational programs.

This festivity takes place the 1º of November, time to visit the cemetery and to drive out the bad spirits through fliying kite´s. Then it´s time to eat, drink and dance. I found Sumpango (even when is less colorful) more authentic than Santiago, less tourists and more local people.

There are different sizes and designs of kite´s. Made of paper these colorful kite´s are huge, usually takes up more than two months to design and create them.

Hotels

Hotel Sumpango: What a view!

Hotel Sumpango: What a view!, Sumpango

gwen7 Says:  We needed a break from our very rushed lives. Our stay was quite relaxing. The rooms decor were rustic some with brick and adobe walls done on premises as the hotel was being built according to staff. We however chose the presidential suite it had a more modern look to it...

There are buses leaving Antigua every hour, and buses leaving Guatemala city almost every half hour. Sumpango is located 42 kms from the city in the Pan American highway.
