Sin Aventura: salsa in the city...

  • Sin aventura is a good time in antigua!!! On the weekends it is packed with tourists, antiguans, and people from the city. they give a-VERY-basic salsa class during the night. Its a good time and with a mixed crowd, not at all intimidating. If you dont speak spanish, the guatemalans that come out seem ready to practice their english on you:-) and are willing to let you bumble through as many salsa songs as you'd like with them. there are usually tuk tuks outside at the end of the night. Id skip the after-parties...
Friday night is lady's night with free cuba libres at a certain time!

anything goes...although given my experiences in guate, Id advise the ladies to leave the full-on-glam club clothes at home. Unless your prepared for that type of attention!

  • It is a small bar on the roof, with the view over ANtigua and Volcanoes. Very nice place to watch sunset.

We enjoyed an amateur ballet in outdoor church ruins. Lit torches lit up the stage. It only cost $3US. Check posters on bulletin boards for great deals like this.

it took me back a hundred years. the parque central is great for people watching and meeting locals, like the kind you'd meet downtown. there are food stalls, the stars, and the magical time when everything is starting to get dark and wind down. i remember seeing almost everyone holding hands or elbow in elbow as a sign of friendship. beautiful.
