This was one of my favorite places for food, drinks and live music. The margarita like drinks were delicious. The food had many vegetarian options. Also, the owners are very nice, always welcoming with a smile.
Dark, laid back with a bohemian vibe, live music, kooky decorations, live-in dogs, and plenty of characters to chat with. If you come during the day enjoy the great food! I recommend the veggie burro. If you come for a night out, be sure to enjoy some of the 'illegal' mezcal or tequila...just follow the road to perdition (you'll find it). A great place with plenty of personality, good times and great people! And if you're lucky, they might even let you stay after hours. Very laid back. Suits need not enter.
it took me back a hundred years. the parque central is great for people watching and meeting locals, like the kind you'd meet downtown. there are food stalls, the stars, and the magical time when everything is starting to get dark and wind down. i remember seeing almost everyone holding hands or elbow in elbow as a sign of friendship. beautiful.
When you crave something North American or just miss going to movies you can see popular North American movies at the movie theatre in Antigua. Ask for exact directions at the tourist info booth in the Central Park. The theare is within two blocks of the Central Park. The sound and picture aren't as good as home as they just have a screen with a DVD projector but hey it's a movie. The movies are in English with Spanish subtitles.
Good funky bar just off the main square. Does drinks and eats and is a fave with the tourists but isn't too touristy.Also frequented by upwardly mobile yuppie Guatamalans, they had a bit of a cocky attitude so probably best avoid them.If you are female I would recommend not walking the streets alone after dark

It is the gay bar in the country.I ammmm Us, and my friend is Mexican. As we were drinking and dancing we kept hearing someone knocking on the front door. It had a buzzer to let you in, after about 30 minutes of this rackett suddenly all the girls went out the back door. Then the door opened and in came 30 or more armed military police. I lost count there were so many. They seperated us from the locals and put us all against the walls. There was an Aussie in there too. They checked passports, tore open my cigarette pack and frisked us. After about half an hour they left. Then the owner came out and in spanish told us they were looking for drugs and guns. They he said not to go out on the street and say what happend. After that on came the music ana we danced the nite away! PS. They did serve us cocktail while we were being checked out.
We did not try it. We were usually exhausted by 8 PM.There is not mcuh nightlife anyway. On the street and everywhere: Women should dress very conservatively to avoid lustful and disrespectful stares. In the cooler, higher altitude cities (Guatemala, Antigua) people dress conservatively and shorts and tank tops stand out. In Flores, because it is so hot, skimpy outfits are more common. At one point at a restaurant in Antigua, my best friend had to go change into pants because the waiters were going ape over her skirt.
