  • Casa Santo Domingo

    5 out of 5 stars

    Antigua Guatemala Restaurants

The Casa Santo Domingo Hotel is set amidst the ruins of the former church and convent. The grounds are fun to explore with fine gardens set amongst crumbled walls and restored walkways. The hotel is considered one of the best in Antigua. And it has a restaurant to match this reputation. While we did not stay here we did experience the restaurant...

    Antigua Guatemala Restaurants

A great view of the city and volcanos. Be sure to go all the way to the roof - there is a small spiral staircase on your right when you reach the second floor. The chips - guacamole - salsa platter with a Zacapa rum makes for a pleasent afternoon nibble. Some backpacking aquaintences ordered the nachos - which was almost as large as their heads...

  • Frida's

    4.5 out of 5 stars

    Antigua Guatemala Restaurants

We had read good reviews of Frida’s on both VT and elsewhere and as it was just up the road from our hotel we were keen to try it for ourselves – and we were not disappointed. Frida’s is a Mexican restaurant themed around the life and work of Frida Kahlo, although the décor is such an eclectic mix that the theme is lost in places. On entering the...

  • Best small cafe in zone 14 Guatemala

I found this cafe while visiting my friend in Edificio Santorini an apartment building in zone 14. I thought it was just a minimarket but they have a full menu, they have american and colombian food with some guatemalan dishes as well. I found it to be very clean and economical. It is close to the airport and to many of the hotels in zone 10, so it...

  • A Must for Sunday!

Cafe Condesa is in the center of Antigua. It is very popular with foreign visitors because of the coffee and desserts. It is remarkable all the time, however, if you are in town on Sunday during brunch, go to the cafe. For about $10 you can get a delicious brunch buffee that includes coffee and juice. They have everything: Pancakes, Eggs, 4 salads,...

La Escudilla is my favourite restaurant in Antigua. I've eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner here and they are all good. If you are a meat eater, the Paradilla Quetzal (mixed grill), including steak, pork chop, chicken, sausages, chopped tomato, avocado cream, black beans, bell peppers, onion and tortillas (yes, all that) is great. • A superb breakfast

I am told that the name of the restaurant comes from "Guatemalan Jimbo's". Jimbo is not a native. You can enjoy streetside dining, right in the shopping district of Panajachel. Guajimbo's is a unique, small restaurant in Panajachel. They serve a breakfast that I had never tried before, of pancakes with caramel topping and whipped cream. It is...

The name isn't terribly origional but it is right by the main park in Antigua. We watched the Super Bowl there. Food looked good but we had already eaten. Didn't have time to eat here but hear it is very good mexican food. The pictures painted on the walls and all of the Frida souveniers are great. The history of Frida Kahlo and her husband Diego Rivera is fascinating. Worth a Google on a rainy afternoon. Particularly interesting is the story about her broken back depicted in the first picture.

The fundamental staple is the tortilla – a thin round patty of corn dough cooked on a griddle called a comal. Tortillas can accompany any meal: If you know Mexican tortillas , you’ll find that Guatemalan ones are smaller and a little plumper – except when they appear on a menu under the heading ‘tortillas’, when they’ll be bigger and performing a...

It is basically a Guatemalan take on KFC. The reason I suggest this is for anybody that is as sensitive to bacterias OR seem prone to travelling sicknesses, it is a safe place to eat. • I Don't Come Here To Eat, But To Be Seen

If you ask for a pasta and marinara, you'll probably get spaghetti and ketchup. The Decor is good but the food really sucks.
