Fresh Fruit Juices: Drink!

by AnnaLupilla

Fresh fruit juices (jugos) and long cool fruit-flavored water drinks (aguas de fruta) are wildly popular. Most cafés and eateries offer them. The basic licuado is a blend of juice or fruit with water and sugar.Made of lime juice, water and sugar, limonada is a delicious thirst-quencher. Try it with soda and you have a cool soft drink, even healthier than 7Up. Naranjada is the same just with orange-flavor. You can also make your own licuados. Just buy some sort of electric mixer, drop the fruit of your choice in together with ice cubes and start crushing ...

Hotel Rio Dulce: Excellent Food in Livingston

by daphesh

The resturant in Hotel Rio Dulce is owned by a swiss chef who cooked for many years in the best hotels in Antigua. From the veranda, which is on the main road, you can watch whats going on in Livingston. The food is excellent, try the shrimps! Shrimps and the savory pasta.

La Fonda de Calle Real: Authentic Guatemalan Cuisine

by vtnyc

La Fonda--ahhh, authentic delicious Guatemalan food. The food here is superb, even Bill Clinton ate here when he visited Antigua. The restaurant is so successful, it has opened 2 other locations as well. You have to get, the House Soup--CALDO REAL. Filled with Chicken, rice, fresh cilantro, onions, and spices, it is an excellent introduction to delicious Guatemalan cooking. I went back 3 times just for this soup!

Kacao

by gkitzmil

Kacaotruly Guatemala -- traditional + haute cuisine, in a beautiful setting that is made to look tropical with wonderful candles. It is as if you are dining in a thatched hut surrounded by a wonderful jungle -- all in the center of the Zona Viva, or 'Lively Zone' of Guatemala City all local food and the best rum in the world

Multiple Names. aka PATAYA: Exotic Cactus Fruit in Panajachel- SABROSA!

by vaticanus

This is a regional delicacy. It looks like something from the planet of Venus or Mars. Outside it is green with flexible protrusions. Slicing it in half reveals a rich luscious purple flesh and numerous tiny black seeds that are easily digestible. The consistency is something like gelatin and yoghurt. The flavor is delicate yet complex. It is only available while in season which is in the Spring. It is harvested from the wild and the supply is extremely limited. If you see it- try it. I have only seen it in Panajachel, the tourist mecca on the shore of Lago Atitlan in the state of Solala.

Casa Santo Domingo: Stay and/or eat!

by bkathryn

The food was very nice - of course, we had a set meal, so did not get to see the menu. The location is interesting because it's an old monastery, converted to an inn and restaurant. We had vegetarian lasagna, which was very nice. The picture is of the garden that was outside the restaurant/hotel.

Chili's: Good spot in Zona Viva for lunch

by bkathryn

Chili's had a varied menu with lots to choose from. I had the veggie quesadillas, which were quite nice. They came with rice and the meal was quite large, for me. As I recall, I couldn't eat it all. We also had our first taste of the local cerveza - Gallo. It was also quite nice. As I don't have a picture of the restaurant, the picture is actually from Antigua.

Pollo Campero's: Chicken all the way!!

by La_Canchita

It is basically a Guatemalan take on KFC. The reason I suggest this is for anybody that is as sensitive to bacterias OR seem prone to travelling sicknesses, it is a safe place to eat. Food is prepared in a clean matter and is fully cooked, always important. Well, seeing as it is like KFC, and you probably know what that kinda food is (greasy fried chicken.....) I suggest the chicken salad. It is actually really good, kinda a chief salad of sorts.-sorry, I dont have a pic of Campero's, but its not easy to miss. On the other hand, here is a pic of me on the back of a pickup (most common means of local travel...) in panajachel.

Tre Fratelli: I Don't Come Here To Eat, But To Be Seen

by TioArturoMucho

If you ask for a pasta and marinara, you'll probably get spaghetti and ketchup. The Decor is good but the food really sucks. Most Guatemalans are'nt food experts and due to the lack of competition, people think this kind of food is acceptable. These waiters are too busy looking at your dates ass and not your half empty glass of beer. People come here to be seen....How long will people put up with this upscale chef boy ardy eatery. The carrot soup is normal

Doña Luisa Xicontecatl: Breakfast Mecca

by TioArturoMucho

The food is better than average, If you don't pay attention to the lack of efficiency in the waitresses you'll love the food. The waitresses are a more tired version of Flo from Mels Diner. This place is ideally for those who just want to camp at a table for 6 hours on 2 cups of coffee and a piece of pie, and screwing turnover and their waitresses out of money. Watch for Sundays it seems that Guatemalas version of Harley Davidson motorcycle gangs eat breakfast here.... I love the home made Yogourt, I love the soups, and make sure you take some raisin bread home with you.
