    Cormier Plage: Excellent seafood lunch

by NedHopkins Written Feb 29, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The restaurant attached to the Cormier Plage hotel is a popular spot for the elite of Cap Haitien to have lunch. Tables are outside, on the beach. Service is excellent. Soft drinks and Prestige beer are available.

At our lunch, we watched a little green parrot walk almost the length of the restaurant area, ignoring all the other diners, to get to our table; jumped up; and started nibbling at our meals. Since we were the only blancs at the restaurant, we were tempted to imput the basest motives to the little bird. My companion reasoned, however, that the parrot equated pale skin with "easy mark." Where the locals would likely have tired of the bird, perhaps even considering it a pest, blancs -- tourists all -- would be charmed, as we were, and would allow it to nibble at their food, as we did.

Favorite Dish: Caribbean lobster or crayfish. None of the world's other lobsters match coldwater lobsters from Maine and Canada; but the Caribbean's warmwater kind are very good.

There's a beutiful view from the terrace to the sea and the city of Cap-Haitien. Restaurant is pretty small but worth to have lunch there!

Favorite Dish: Don't know the name of a meal I ate but there was good kreolian style beef with rice and vegetables enjoyed with local beer called Prestige.

    Hotel Roi Christophe's restaurant
The Christophe has a special feel that you will notice from the time you drive in. The building is a restored colonial building, and has local musicians performing at night for the entertainment of the guests. The food is excellent, the staff is congenial, and local flora make the hotel premises beautiful. Also, the designers have done a good job reducing noise levels from outside.

Favorite Dish: Pepper Steak (Filet de Boeuf au Poivre)

Had a very good Pizza at Banana, can recommend this typical old house with a small courtyard where you can sit outside.
