    Buses to and from Tela
When going to Tela from San Pedro Sula, your best bet is the Tela Express, which leaves from downton. It is only 54 lempiras although the buses are old American school buses. If you need to go to Guatemala City then th eonly choice is Hedman Alas which is expensive (52 USD to Guatemala City) but it also goes to Copan Ruins.

The taxi's around Tela normally are shared taxi's. Advantage is that they don't cost much: for a trip of 20 to 30 minutes you pay around 2 dollars. Disadvantage is that they only do standard routes. You have to know (or ask) where taxi's depart for a particular destination, and you have to make clear that you want it as a shared taxi when there are no other people in it yet. Another disadvantage is that it is not the most comfortable way of transportation, because a shared taxi means that it will be shared with at least 4 people.

When you want to go to a destination on which no shared taxi's operate, you wil have to charter a taxi. In this case you have to expect to pay at least double the price, if not even more.

    GETTING THERE BY BUS

This is the view of Tela from the top of the hill that houses the main police building in Tela. At the bottom of the road on the corner is the location for the Tela-El Progreso and Tela-La Ceiba buses that leave at regular intervals daily.

The only way to get to Tela from other cities in Honduras is by bus. There are buses from El Progreso and La Ceiba which come into the centre of town. There are also buses from Tegucigalpa which take about 7 hours and drop you on the main highway outside of town.

The nearest airport is La Ceiba and the nearest International airport is in San Pedro Sula. You can take a bus from San Pedro Sula to El Progreso and change to a bus heading to Tela.

The best way to get to Tela when coming from San Pedro Sula is by direct bus. There is one busstation in the city where the busses depart to all Caribbean cities: Puerto Cortés, La Ceiba and Tela. Here you'll find the bus that will get you to Tela. It takes about 2 to 2,5 hours to get there and it will cost you approx. 4 dollars. Busses depart all day long, until shortly before sunset. This last bus arrives at around 8:00 to 8:30 in Tela. Note that this bus will not drop you of in the centre of Tela, but at the gasstation on the mainroad towards La Ceiba. From here it is about 15 minutes on foot to the actual centre of the city.

When you're going back to San Pedro Sula, there are two options. Once every two hours direct busses depart in the main busstation just outside Tela. But if you cannot take one of these busses, you can just walk back towards the gasstation along the mainroad and wait for the busses that come by coming from La Ceiba. From there busses come by every 15 minutes, and most of the time there are some free spaces on these busses. Make sure that if the bus stops you run towards the door because most of the time more people are waiting for it, and when you're too late; too bad... These busses cost the same and take you to the same station as the ones departing from the centre of Tela.
