El Delfin: Best Seafood on the Trujillo Waterfront

The fisherman/boatman highly recommended this place, and he was on the money. The restaurant is on the beach just below the old fort, along with a couple of other places. El Delfin has plenty of room and so seating with a view of the water is easy. We came after dark, and during the meal the electricity failed. But, the restaurant was ready for this and quickly brought out candles to make the meal that much more romantic. The electricity was soon restored, however. We ate an outstanding and rich meal, such that we could barely walk away from the table at the end. The price was 925L, which is less than $50 including tip. In the USA, this would easily be a $100+ meal. We paid for this on our VISA card. Because of the locally rich seafood fishing, tourists won't find any better place to dine for seafood than at this place in Trujillo.

Favorite Dish: We ordered a ceviche of caracole (conch) which was an outstanding appetizer. I also ordered a tall glass of fresh maracuya (passion fruit) juice blended with crushed ice, and a double shot of the best Honduran rum on the side. Then, we each ordered the lobster. The lobster was fresh but shelled and sautéed in garlic. There was plenty of meat on this plate, which also included fried plantain. These night shots with my iPhone camera don't do justice to the beauty of this meal, but check it out in terms of proportions.

Christopher Columbus Hotel: Our Hotel Restaurant

Dining can be added to the hotel bill, and we found it convenient to breakfast at the hotel, which was included. The dining room has a nice view of the ocean within the comfort of A/C, but the emptiness of the place made us feel lonely. Nothing special here, so we were never greatly impressed, but it was safe enough and adequate for our purposes, but don't expect fresh fruit juices for breakfast. Rather some kind of fruit drink and boiled coffee is the norm here. Dinner was better. There was a good supply of seafood and the fish kabobs I had were excellent for not being overcooked. Unfortunately the popularity of french fries in Honduras takes away from the otherwise elegant hotel atmosphere. Service is friendly enough though.
