Weavening
  • Tip Rating:
  • In La Pintada, the village in the mountains where we wente by horse, we visited the workshop of the local women 'Jardin de Mujeres Tejiendo'. We were late, but luckily there was still one woman to show us the place and the weavinglooms. Also a young girl liked to show us how to do the weavening.

The women in La Pintada produce colourful scarfs and cloth for the local market in Copan. In the workshop there is also a small shop to buy their products at the spot.

    Preparing tortillas
  • Tip Rating:
  • When we visited a village in the mountains during our trip by horse, we were invited in a house. Here we could see how the homemade tortillas were prepared.

The woman of the house showed us how she made the dough of the maize. Indoors was an open fire where she baked the tortillas on a plate. Also the other food was prepared on this fire.

    Scarlet Macaws
  • Tip Rating:
  • The ruins are inhabited by a flock of domesticated Scarlet Macaws. These can be seen at the entrance and flying around the grounds also.

    City of Copan ruinas
  • Tip Rating:
  • Copan Ruinas is the small city just outside the archeological site. It definitely reflects rural Honduras and you get a feel for the distinct cowboy culture as opposed to mayan culutre of Guatemala.

In the villages in the mountains the houses and buildings were originally made of mud. In the village where we went on horseback we saw some older houses made of mud. Our horseman explained us how these constructions are made.

He told us also that the last years new houses and buildings are constructed with concrete and bricks. So we visited the newly modern built bar and restaurant at the edge of the village with a great view at the mountains and valley.
