Busses to Tela
The Caribbean busstation in SPS - San Pedro Sula
The Caribbean busstation in
SPS

The best way to get to Tela when coming from San Pedro Sula is by direct bus. There is one busstation in the city where the busses depart to all Caribbean cities: Puerto Cortés, La Ceiba and Tela. Here you'll find the bus that will get you to Tela. It takes about 2 to 2,5 hours to get there and it will cost you approx. 4 dollars. Busses depart all day long, until shortly before sunset. This last bus arrives at around 8:00 to 8:30 in Tela. Note that this bus will not drop you of in the centre of Tela, but at the gasstation on the mainroad towards La Ceiba. From here it is about 15 minutes on foot to the actual centre of the city.

When you're going back to San Pedro Sula, there are two options. Once every two hours direct busses depart in the main busstation just outside Tela. But if you cannot take one of these busses, you can just walk back towards the gasstation along the mainroad and wait for the busses that come by coming from La Ceiba. From there busses come by every 15 minutes, and most of the time there are some free spaces on these busses. Make sure that if the bus stops you run towards the door because most of the time more people are waiting for it, and when you're too late; too bad... These busses cost the same and take you to the same station as the ones departing from the centre of Tela.

    Bus to Copán Ruinas
Gran Central de Busses in SPS - San Pedro Sula

There are several busses daily connecting San Pedro Sula with Copán Ruinas. They all depart from the beautiful new busstation in the western part of the city. This huge new " Gran Central de Busses" has busses departing to the west and the south, and also has a nice shopping centre inside the mainbuilding and taxi's waiting in front of it.

Busses to Copán depart from different places here, depending on the company that operates the line. I took the bus from the company "Casasola" that charges 5 dollars for the 4 hours busride to Copán. Casasola does this trip twice daily, but there are some other companies that lift the total number of busses per day to at least 10.

If you want to take this bus when coming from the city centre, just take a taxi to the "Gran Central de Busses" and ask for the first bus to Copán Ruinas".

Ticabus is the most famous buscompany in Central America and has connections between all capitals in the region. All capitals (Guatemala City, San Salvador, Tegucigalpa, Managua, San José and Panama) and San Pedro Sula. The prices of Ticabus are higher then average, bus the connections are faster, the busses are better and the schedules of Ticabus are strict and you don't have to expect any delays.

The busstation of Ticabus in SPS is just north from the city centre, and it is only a small building hidden behind a gasstation. From here there are departures to all capitals in Central America, and to Tapachula at the Guatemala-Mexican border.

I wanted to take to bus to Managua from here, but since I hadn't been able to buy my ticket in advance, I had to try it early in the morning before departure. After an exciting half an hour of waiting, I got the confirmation that there was space on the bus and I was happy to pay the 32 dollars for the 14 hours trip. To prevent this from happening, it is wise to buy your ticket at least a day in advance.
