  • Located in the middle of the key island is a little tree-circled place that has two cages. In the cages are two very colorful toucans and a big red macaw. Also on the key you will find running around two deer, three iguanas and a cat as well as red headed vultures and our favorite…. Humming birds.

In the after noon the local care taker feeds the birds and a big plate of fruit is left out for the vultures so that is the best time to get pictures of them.

  • The deer are out eating during the morning and can be found around the cages, as this is where the caretaker puts out some fresh greens for them. At night you will find them sleeping near villa 40.

If you have just returned from a dive or have been in the water the female deer will lick you and be your friend for life. (She is licking the salt off of you.) The male deer is not as friendly.

On this last trip the deers were gone due to the female coming into season and the male becoming a little rough. They were moved to Baileys key for a while but will be back when the season is over.

    Shore Diving
Most people do not know that AKR has a very good shore dive spot. On the back of the key you will find a small shack that houses all the things you need to do a shore dive minus the mask, fins and snorkle.
The shore dive here is called The Garden and it is a very nice site. It is also the same site that AKR does the dolphin dive at but is accessed by boat.

The shack is open from 3 pm to 8 pm each day except Saturdays.
