Where the bug are!

You don't see them you don’t feel them but they are there the sand fleas. As a result of my baggage problem I did not use insect repellent. On the flight home I noticed little red spots all over my legs and the following week it itched like crazy. To prevent this be sure to use insect repellent with a concentration of at least 6.5% DEET every time you go out, after swimming and repeat at least every two hours.

When people ask me how I could buy a place in Central America and what about the crime I tell them to read their local paper. There is very little violent crime. Most are crimes of opportunity. Would you walk dark streets alone in most cities in the US? Then why expect to be able to do that anywhere.? Do not flash cash when in an area where unemployment often exceeds 50%. Ask prices if you are not sure. I keep most money in one pocket so when I need to pay I can take just a little out of the "pay pocket" again Common Sense!!

Little jokster fish

While swimming around the reef be warned that there is a fish that just loves to suck on your toes and fingers.

We took a few people that had never swam in the ocean before and for some reason the fish just loved their toes... it was also funny to see a person jump clean out of the water and scream just because some little fish sucked their toe.

As with any place in the world there is always crime.
Remember to lock you door at night and to secure your money and credit cards in a safe place.

Never walk alone on unlit beaches.

Do not flash cash.

DO NOT leave things out in the open for the chance theif.

Remember crime is everywhere and no place in the world can escape it.

	Dollars and Lempiras Tip Rating:

Both dollars and lempiras are used anywhere--not so with credit cards or even travelers checks. Check with hosts as most of us will cash travelers checks--as will larger places. Best to shop small shops with cash and come with more cash than expected and less plastic. Exchange rate is 17 Lempiras for one dollar USA. DO NOT USE AUTO TELLER MACHINE IN COXEN HOLE! If you run short go to Credomatic in Coxen Hole--go inside--be prepared for a line. They will cash advance on credit cards with no fee on this end--but in Lempiras. Check your plastic before you come here to see what they charge on your end.

	Mosquitoes Tip Rating:

Identities have been hidden, but this was not one of us. As you can see the damage that mosquitoes can do can be quite extensive. Therefore I recommend DEET repellant and if you're staying at Anthony's Key Resort I do suggest the air conditioned rooms out on the key. They keep you much more protected and to be honest I hardly ever had a single encounter with a mosquito. Others, obviously, were not so lucky.

	Drinking and diving Tip Rating:

NO drinking and diving

Drinking and scuba diving do not mix and if you have a drink your diving should be over for the day.

Fill up with water in between dives and you will always have a good dive.

Warning!!!! Roatan can be hazardous to your future plans. It is an addictive place. You may find it hard to leave. We ended up having to buy a home there

About the only bad thing about Roatan is the abundance of mosquitos and no-see-ums. So don't forget to bring bug repellant. Unfortunately, they love me, so I always seem to get more bites than everyone else.

Palm tree

The palm trees around the island are full of coconuts that have a habit of dropping from the sky.

Some of the trees are very tall and the coconut falls with a thud.....

Please keep an eye on where you walk and remember to look up once in a while.
