Make new friends and talk to others that you meet in the bars and on the beach. We made a few new friends while on our last visit. It was funny as they come from the town next to ours in California. We all went to West Bay beach for a few hours of fun and eating on the beach where we all met more people and the party grew. The snorkling was great and...more

Mavies & Dixies : simply the best restaurant in West End (next to Lighthouse, just around the corner of the Church on Main Road). Enjoy the terrace with seaview. Very friendly atmosphere, succulent local dishes, honnest prices. Specialties are super fresh seafood (they go fishing themselves) eg. lobster, crab, local fishes you might encounter...more
Dian’s Garden of Eat’n is located in the town of West-End which is on the north-west part of the island. People come from all over the world just to eat here and to meet with Dian. The food is FANTASTIC and you will not find any place like this in the world, nor will you find anyone like Dian any place in the world. When you go here (and it is a...more
Another great place to eat and drink is the Eagle Ray. The place sits out over the water and about 20 feet in the air so you do not get "bugged" from the flying pests that are everywhere in West End.(UPDATE) Sadly the patio of the Eagle Ray fell down when Hurricain Willma went through)more
If you are staying in the West end or in West Bay beach area you really do not need a car and the taxis are just at the end of the street if you feel you must get out and about. I you do want to rent a car you can get a small on for around $60 to 70 a day with all the insurance and tax.
I think you are better just taking the collective or a taxi for those shopping trips or for that trip to Coxen Hole.
There are so many little shops that you can choose from along the main road of West End. Each shop has the standard tourist stuff but every now and then you find something you just can not live without. Get it then because you will not see it someplace else. Or will you??? Paintings, Carvings and pottery are some of the items you will...more

Drinking and scuba diving do not mix and if you have a drink your diving should be over for the day.
Fill up with water in between dives and you will always have a good dive.
Luggage and bags:
A back pack for when you are walking around.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Shorts, light pants, light longsleve shirts for the night time to keep the bugs off of you.
Photo Equipment: Camera both digital and underwater
Miscellaneous: When traveling around anyplace that has mosquitoes and other biting insects it is best to arm yourself to the teeth with bug guards of some sort.
Skin so Soft is sold by Avon and works real well to keep the little buggers from biting you and Cactus Juice works as well.
Cactus Juice can be purchased online at www.cactusjuicetm.com or you can find it on the island in the local shops.
Cactus Juice also sells an “after the fact” cream that will take the itch away and sooth the sunburn as well.
At the end of West End there is a little store for all of your grocery needs. You can find most things from home just do not expect to find every brand.
I do not think you will miss this building.
Coconut Tree Divers in the heart of West End is one of the most popular dive shops in Roatan. Their shop is located on the main road in West-End at the entrance to town. West-End sits in Half Moon Bay, a white sand, palm fringed paradise which is excellent for swimming and snorkellers. You will find some of the world's best dive sites right out...more
There are many places to eat and drink here and some awesome places to watch the sun set.
Fondest memory: Watching the sunset after having a few cold drinks with our friends then going back to our swing to have a few more cold drinks.
