San Lorenzo Things to Do

We slept, dined, and then left San Lorenzo for the nearby island of El Tigre, so we didn't hang around much. However, we did talk to the resident parrot and take many photos from the rooftop.

San Lorenzo Restaurants

Located on the rooftop floors of the Hotel Villa Conch Mar, this place will surprise you with excellent service and food quality. I would stay away from the fresh leaf greens, but the fresh fruit juices and bar drinks are safe enough. The breakfast menu was typical eggs, refried beans, fresh juice, and coffee, all of which comes comparatively cheap at about 100L ($5.25) per person.

Fresh maracuya (passion fruit) juice can't be found anywhere in the USA, not even in Florida, so don't miss the opportunity for a tangy and not too sweet dream that will blow away the best fresh orange juice you ever had. If you can't acquire this habit, order the fresh pineapple or other tropical fruit juice. The practice is to blend juice with crushed ice, which in any good restaurant in Honduras will be made from bottled water.

At this restaurant you can order and have the meal delivered to a table by the pool if you like. Service is generally excellent.

Favorite Dish: The diner menu includes lobster, various fish, conch, and of course, shrimp. All of this is as fresh as it gets. I recommend the shrimp for being such a good deal, and for being the largest jumbo shrimp you will find anywhere in the world. The only comparable jumbo shrimp I've had was in Thailand many years back. Get it cooked as you like, with butter and garlic, or a la plancha--simply grilled. Again, prices are also very reasonable. Apologies for not taking a photo of the food, like I usually do.

One of the things we found really great about this restaurant, and frankly about the hotel and south coast region in general, was the solitude. Unlike the Caribbean coast, you won't find hordes of obnoxious American and European tourists loitering about. More likely, you'll have the dining room and swimming pool to yourself.
