The beach at Utila. This is a pretty fine beach for a place where Honduras and Bay Island Guide says there is NO BEACH. Also noteworthy, there were many workers cleaning up the beach, thanks to Maduro's new policies.

Go on the Garifuna Tours from Tela. They are lots of fun, and a great bargain at $18 each for a 6-hour adventure. I missed the Punta Sal trip because it was too windy the day I was going, but I did the Laguna Micos (with Miami) and Punta Izopo (with Triunfo de la Cruz). Their office is just west and across the street from the town square. www.garifunatours.com. Soaking at Agua Caliente hot springs, near Trujillo, and getting the best complete massage of my life!

The Bay Islands- Roatan and Guanaja, Copan Ruins. I remember arriving in San Pedro Sula airport,as you flew over the jungle suddenly a runway appeared, then stepping onto the tarmac, being routed straight to another twin prop plane about 200 yards away. Then it ws off to Puerto Cortes where I cleared customs and the a 2 hr flight to Roatan on an old DC-3.The window was even open and we had to land before dark because no lights on the runway. This was with Tan-Sahsa an airline no longer in business and now there are direct flights to roatan, but it was quite an adventure.

Study the map before you go anywhere. If you start in Copan stop in Santa Rosa.Go to Tegucigalpa. See Choluteca and leave on an airconditioned bus for San Pedro Sula. Travel to Omoa, Pto.Cortes and stay a night in Tela. Find your way to La Ceiba. Go to nice places outside this town. Visit Trujillo. And definately visit the islands Roatan and Utila. Driving to Trujillo where the road ends and having a cup of tea on terrace, overlooking The Bay of Trujillo, at Villas Brinkley

Monetary unit of Honduras. This is one lempira note - I find it most beautiful of all notes in circullation in this country. Also, the least expensive..:} Learning the story of this mighty warrior - Lempira, honored by his countryman for his bravery.

by slawekjb

When in Honduras one must go to and see Bay Islands, Roatan and/or Utila. Not to forget Copan and Trujillo. For real adventure - Moskitia. My fondest memories are when visiting villages off the road, meeting with real people- The Indios, decendants of The Great Mayans, living there.

I go to Honduras every year on a medical/dental mission and visit rural villages. Of the villages I've visited Tomala would be my favorite. It's located in the mountains near the San Salvador border, in the mountains.
