I have only been to the city...

by sirpantsalot

I have only been to the city of La Ceiba and area just after Hurricane Mitch, so not much was normal. I think the beach would have been nice if it was not for all the garbage and animal parts washed up on the shores after the hurricane. We noticed that there was a nice beach set up with bars etc. nearby to the beach. We tried to check our sense of smell at the door but it was not possible. The sewer systems are not like western ones as they have very low pressure partly due to being close to the equator I think. I will miss the inexpensive shopping. Some people were very friendly and some have relatives in Canada which makes for a good start to the conversation.

When visiting Honduras, one must go to the sandy, white beaches in West Bay on Roatan Island and swim in the crystal clear waters surrounded by a coral reef. And, while there, don't miss going to 'The Bite' to have a cocktail while watching the sun set. My fondest memory of Honduras is the satisfaction one can obtain living the simple life in a beautiful country.

visit the main cathedral, whose official name I can no longer recall. The exterior is quite unusual with various Mayan symbols integrated within the overall Christian architectural context. Photo: The Exterior of the Cathedral.

There is an ATM or two in the central square. that is really the only way to get cash. There might be a bank but we got there on a Friday night.

Margaritas?

by epicult

The best margaritas in the world are found on Utila @ the Mango Inn. Nothing like a few margaritas after some good diving. A little rich, but very good!

The "Flamboyant Tree" (Delonix Regia) is another Caribbean wonder and is certainly one of the most beautiful trees I know.

Hurricane Mitch has devastated Honduras: over seven thousand victims, another eight thousand still missing and more than one million homeless. A disaster for an already so poor country...

Folk Costume

This picture is of me at my school in Tela, Triunfo de la Cruz. I am pictured with some friends (that's me on the right!). The girl in the front is wearing a traditional costume used for folk dances.
