Roatan FriendsOne of the cool things about the West End is that it is like small town. After walking up and down this one pot-holed dirt road for 2 and a half weeks you meet the same people, get to talking with them and then hanging out with them. Let me introduce my Roatan friends; some locals, some transplants and other are fellow travelors. This is Jose, a 14 year old Honduran boy originally from Tikal who was taken from his home and apprenticing to be a street vendor. Our friend Ron befriended him and before he went home Ron gave Jose his digital watch</font.

Be polite. Say a few words in Spanish. Start with 'Hola'. Don't flash your money around. Talk about your home if you live in Canada for example, they might have realtives there. Hand out flags or pins of your home country to new friends. Take some tolietries with you and some pharmacy items as Immodium because finding what you need when you need it might be hard.
