Mario's cooking: Simply the BEST seafood

by epicult

Utila has the best seafood at the VERY reasonable prices. Update July 2004: Mario has sold his restaurant and it is now some really boring overpriced Italian food place. Mind you, I've always felt Italian food pedestrian at its best. You can now find Mario as the head chef at the resort near the old airport. The only way I found where he was, was by noticing that this was the only restaurant that advertised crab as a dish. $7 bucks buys you the contents of the photo, including the beer. Simply the best seafood I've experienced. Heavenly.

Your Place: Save your cash

by epicult

I make guacamole wherever I go. See the picture below. It's simple: » 3 - 4 garlic cloves minced» 1 Large tomatoe seeded and diced into small chunks» 3-4 avacadoes (ripe) mushed to a chunky paste.» 1 Lime freshly squeezed» 1 super hot pepper (finely diced). This is optional but good» Salt to tasteDo the avacadoes and then mix with the tomatoes and garlic. add lime juice and salt to taste. Takes about 5 minutes and the taste is outta this world! Guacamole is easy to make, tastes good, is healthy and you can buy the ingredients anywhere. We were able to make a large bowl for less than 50 cents. The chips on the other hand...

Expatriados Bar and Grill-La Ceiba, Honduras: You get alot for an excellent price

by dawnpaz2000

Expatriados Bar and Grill is on the top floor of a building with a grass hut covering half of the floor space. They have a full selection of alcohol and non alcohol drinks. Their barbaque is delicious!! Their menu has Honduran and American foods with daily specials. I love eating here because the food is not expensive and you get big portions. The owners are friendly Canadians. Happy Hour is from 4-6 p.m Monday, Thursday, and Fridays. It´s a great place to meet other travelers and get advice as well as meeting the locals too. My favorite dish are the tacos. You can choose from beef, chicken, or a mix. There big and not expensive. My husband, a Honduras, enjoys the usual Honduras plate of Ham or pork chop with beans, rice, and salad. It´s delicious!! There margaritas are good too!

A typical Honduran breakfast !!!

by LATINO82

Wow, if you are visiting Santa Rosa de Copan , don't miss the opportunity to eat a delicious typical Honduran breakfast in the restaurant located in the Hotel Elvir. It is located just a few minutes away from Central Park. And if you are in La Ceiba, don't miss the opportunity to try the seafood that is served in this city. there are plenty of restaurants that serve seafood. It is just wonderful !!!

One thing which surprised me...

by mjmarble

One thing which surprised me was the fact that you could get just about any food you wanted. As stated, I at a food court almost every day, dining on Subway and Burger King and such. We also went out a couple nights, once to a Steak House and once to a Chinese place. I'm still convinced I at dog at the Chinese place, but I figured I'd do that in the States too. Just kidding. It was really good food, and outside of lunches we didn't get any more 'traditional' dishes to the area, which was fine for me since I don't particularly like Mexican style foods.

Captain Roy's for breakfast,...

by jake22

Captain Roy's for breakfast, Menero Catarcho for lunch, Sharkie's restaurant for dinnerThe prices were important in all the above. But the lunches at Menero Catarcho were important since it was open air in the middle of the town and the whole populace passed by as you ate. Comida tipica for breakfast, (2 eggs any way, with tortillas and orange juice and coffee.) at Capt. Roy'sRoasted Chicken for lunch at Menero Catarcho . Rosemary, garlic chicken and Thai vegetarian rice at Sharkies or T-bone steak special at Capt. Roy's.

by jazztravel

Lucy's is a great restaurant on Main street. At night they have fresh fish and other items. I liked it a lot because there was great service and the price was good. There are candles on the tables and when it is packed there is a great atmosphere.mentioned above The best food in town is the freshly grilled seafood. Especially Baracuda with garlic butter sauce and seafood soup.

Trujillo - I liked the Oasis...

by DanEnslow

Trujillo - I liked the Oasis best. They have an extensive menu - lots of choices, including some that are more like home. The main floor is light and airy; they also have an upstairs that is subdued and relaxing, romantic for a couple. There is also a small place around the corner that has good liquados, and there's an icecream parlor. Both have pan dulce. With your breakfast at the Oasis, try the plantains maduro instead of toast or tortillas, especially if you're really hungry, because they give you a big serving, and they're really good. Tip for anywhere in Honduras: unless you like wonderbread toast, consider asking for tortillas instead. By default, they serve tortilas to ladinos and wonderbread toast to anglos. That goes for every meal. Here's a Typical Trujillo street.

The Mango Cafe, in Tela is situated on the river. The Garifuna tours depart from there, and Spanish lessons are given on the deck. Good food too (Italian food, Honduran style). The Mango Cafe is in cahoots with the Mango Bed and Breakfast, the Mango Spanish School, and Garifuna Tours. They also rent bycycles. Wild Wild West. Featured carne asada, a honduran sausage, green salad, tortilas, and beans.
