Jamaica is...reggae

by Joan58

Jamaica is reggae, and reggae is Bob Marley. Even if Jamaican people can tell you that there are many other singers now, Bob Marley is always in their heart. You can hear his music everywhere. Because he is not only the god of reggae, but he's a symbol of Jamaica. You have to know I am a Bob Marley fan. I grew up with his music and I belive in his ideals.'Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds.' B. Marley -Redemption song-

Jamaica is... the rainbow country

by Joan58

'Get it together in JamaicaSoulful town, soulful people,I see you're having fun.Dancing to the reggae rhythm, Oh, island in the sun! Come on andSmile, you're in Jamaica!' Bob Marley - Smile JamaicaJamaica is really the rainbow country. It's a wild land full of beautiful and romantic places, its magic atmosphere is something that you'll never forget. So, smile! You're in Jamaica! Remember, my Jamaica page is just an introduction and a sort of fondest memories where I try to tell you my experiences. If you want to know about places I visited, please go to my other pages: Ocho Rios, Dunn's River Falls, Port Antonio.

The Locals

by jonkaren3

You've got to love the people of Jamaica. Beware that you will be asked by the locals if you are interested in buying drugs. Some will even try to force it on you. The security at the resort was tight. But, we still were approached at the airport, and even while swimming in the ocean. (they travel along the beach in little boats).

But there's absolutely no reason to be put off. As a foreign visitor, the chances of encountering any trouble are minuscule, and the Jamaican authorities have spent millions making sure the island treats its tourists right. As the birthplace of the "all-inclusive" hotel, Jamaica is well suited to those travellers who want to head straight from plane to beach, never leaving their hotel compound. But to get any sense of the country at all, you'll need to do some exploring. It's undoubtedly worth it, as this is an island packed with first-class attractions, oozing with character, and rich with a musical and cultural heritage; if you're a reggae fan, you're in heaven.

Rightly famous for its beaches and music, beautiful, brash Jamaica is much more besides. There's certainly plenty of white sand, turquoise sea and swaying palm trees, but there are also spectacular mountains and rivers, tumbling waterfalls and cactus-strewn savannah plains. Far more than just a resort, the island also boasts vibrant towns and cities such as sprawling Kingston, which inspired the music of Bob Marley and countless other home-grown reggae superstars.Jamaica is a country with a swagger in its step – proud of its history, sporting success and musical genius – but also with a weight upon its shoulders. The island faces the familiar problems of a developing country, including dramatic inequality of wealth and social tensions that occasionally spill over into localized violence and worldwide headlines. As a result Jamaicans are as renowned for being as sharp, sassy and...

Mountaines, blue skies, and clean beaches

by Kathyy

Jamaica is beautiful. Get away from the resort and take a walk off the beaten paths. My husband and I walked on a blocked off road. We wound up with a beautiful view of the ocean while exploring coral that had broken off and washed ashore.

Liquid sunshine

I enjoyed the Shaw Park Botanical Gardens near Ochie. They are next to the White River and they are 600ft up with beautiful views and there are rivers and waterfalls. There is also a bird santuary here and a nice bar to relax.Everyone should go to Dunn's River Falls. It is traditional to climb the falls, which i did and it was great fun, even though it was raining at the time.

Kingston is the heart of Jamaica

by rachel_sun

Do go to Kingston, the heart of Jamaica. It is a bustling, noisy vibrant city, visit the Bob Marley museum, which is great and you get to see his house and there is even a small cinema here.Do go on a tour of the city and do see the Sovereign shopping centre. It has plenty of shops and food shops and two cinemas.Do go to the Blue Mountains. This is where coffee is made and the scenery is fantastic and it is almost unknown by tourists. You can see coffee at the Silver Hill Coffee Factory between sept-feb and you can see workers picking the red berries, peel them and then leave them to dry.

Montego Bay was a tropical paradise.

by rachel_sun

I went to Montego Bay when i visited Jamaica. It is the most touristy place on the island, but the beaches are wonderful. Its main atraction is Doctors Cave Beach.Do have breakfast in the best grill in Montego Bay,The Pelican Grill. The service here is brillint and the fresh food is good too.If you visit Doctors Cave Beach,go in the morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds of people.Do visit the Jamaican Swamp Safari Farm.A James Bond movie was filmed here. This is a great nature reserve,at Salt Marsh Bay,30 mins drive from Montego Bay.You must go on a raft tour as well.Martha Brae Rafting tours,10mins from Falmouth are great. The trip lasts about 1 and a half hours and on the trip you will see many birds and tropical trees and vendors selling Red Stipe Beer and soft drinks. Do go on an estate tour.Belvedere Estate was one of the first estates to be burnt down in 1831 Christmas Rebellion.Its...

West end Negril is way chill mon

by chilly_casey

Didn't actually scuba but snorkelling around the caves is great. If you make it to "Joseph's cave" be sure to come up the ladder to the Pirate's cave side, as the woman who owns Joseph's cave bar is quite insane and rude. Good folks at the Pirate's cave bar..... it's the same cave as far as I could tell. Saw sea turtle, not sure how it ranks among expert scuba folk, but I was impressed with the reefs and habitat. I went snorkelling every day. The sunsets are amazing. Xtabi is a great place to stay, but there are less expensive places to drink.
