by diver-x

If staying in Negril, find yourself some snorkel equipment and go into the water at Rick's Cafe or at LTU Pub. Swim south along the cliffs and explore the little coves and the dozens of little hidden caves in the cliffs. We had a great time herding schools of fish into & out of the caves! There was a lot of marine life in these little coves and some very healthy coral too. We really enjoyed having breakfast and dinner at the cliffside open-air restaurant at LTU Pub. The food was superb and the view is just lovely. And after dinner, the bartenders really know how to make a banana daquiri! We enjoyed LTU much better than Rick's, which for some reason gets all the press.

Go to Falmouth

by bkathryn

As I recall, one of the first things we did after arriving in Jamaica was to go to Falmouth (not too far from Montego Bay) to pay the taxes on the piece of property owned by my friend's family. I believe this picture is of city hall, or wherever we had to go to pay up.

Make it a Personalized Treat

by Radiomom

Stay in a small hotel, not an all-inclusive. Meet people, don't worry about the higglers on the beach. They're just trying to make a living. Float around in that gorgeous sea in the daytime. Stroll the beach with your sweetie at night ;^) Wandering down the beach at night, stopping where the music is. Alfred's Ocean Palace...Roots Bamboo...head up to Kaiser's on the cliffs...drinking Red Stripes or fresh mango daquiries or dirty bananas or mudslides or....(Did I mention this is a grownup's vacation wonderland?) Or there's lazily floating in the sea. Stress? What's that? Work? Oh, call and tell them I'm taking another week....

Getting There & Away

by frqtflyr

Getting There & Away Jamaica is easy to get to, enjoying one of the best air feeds in the Caribbean from both North America (Miami or New York) and Europe. Australasian visitors will have to travel via North America. The majority of international visitors land at the Montego Bay InternationalAirport, but there is another international airport at Kingston, Jamaica is an easy hop from neighboring islands and the eastern seaboard of North America as well as being a regular port ofcall for many cruise ships. The outbound departure tax for air travelers is $US35.

Spend as much time in and on the water as possible. My fondest memory of Jamaica is sailing. The Sandals resort has several Hobie catamerands, and we took one out every day we were there, sometimes spending up to three hours sailing the entire length of the bay.

Experience the local culture. The people are so freindly and helpful. There's wonderful beaches and lots of bargains in town. We've been there on a cruise, to Ocho Rios, and then stay'ed at an all-inclusive resort in Montego Bay. Both were nice, but you get to see more when you spend a few days there. We just love the people.

Climb the Dunn's River Falls. It is a waterall, and it is a very fun thing to do. The best memory was riding on the bus from the airport to the resort. The drivers always played reggae, and we all sipped on Red Stripe beer. The drive was along the water, and it was very relaxing.

One night the resort hosts a beach night where they have several activites. I would recommend this to anyone who has a chance to go. I miss seeing all of the spectacular sunsets that were seen when we were there.

Do the beaches: in Ochos Rios - must see and climb Dunn River Falls. It takes about an hour to climb and the water is cold and exhillarating and also a bit dangerous. Go to Negril - 7miles of white sand beaches with all the activity you could ever want and DONT want!. GO to Portaland - and see Blue Lagoon, and Frenchmans cover, Rafting on the RIO Grande, and Reach Falls.

wendell1's General Tip

by wendell1

I have so many fond memories, and more to come I'm sure, that its very difficult to pick only one. I would say going to Reach Falls, climbing the falls and trekking the lush landscape with its beautiful mini-waterfalls and crystall clear fresh water with the one you love.
