Good things to bring on a beach vacation

by Dabs

If you are planning on visiting any of the falls or wading out into the water (lots of sea urchins-ouch!), a good pair of aqua shoes is a good investment. I saw lots of people wearing their tennis shoes which I assume would stay wet for the rest of the trip.If you are staying at an all inclusive, you should pack at least a nice pair of pants (men) and a skirt/sundress (women) if you plan on going to the reservation only restaurants.A hat is also a good idea, the part on my head always burns and then peelsSunglasses Sunscreen!!!! The sun is very intense in Jamaica. Pack an underwater camera-I missed out on manatee shots because I forgot to buy one, they don't have them out in the country.A disposable camera is also not a bad idea if you are planning on being out on the water in case it gets wet I find beach time the perfect time to catch up on reading-magazines are good or maybe that...

Pack light

by Widnwilly

Take as little as possible. Make for less of a hassle at the air port Take a good pair of shoes and a pair of sandals. Anything else you may need for clothing can be purchased very inexpensively Take everything you may need. Take at least 2 cameras and lots of film or extra discs for your digital. Film is hard to find and expensive If you stay at one of the resorts you won't need a thing SUNSCREEN and Aloe vera-A must

Pack light!

You probably aren't going to do much back-packing, so bring something with wheels. That should do fine for you. Pack light clothes! Lots of shorts, tee-shirts, sun dresses, BATHING SUITS!, tevas, etc. Your basic hot weather stuff. The average winter temps are in the 80s, average summer temps are low 90s. There is some rain, but it usually comes and goes quickly. SUNSCREEN! Plan on at least 8-12, even if you have a bit of a base tan. The people who were fairly pale were wearing about a 25-30. A few very tanned people were still wearing a 4.

Sun Block is a must here

Leave room in your suit case for Tie-Dye T-Shirts, Rum, and Island Wood Carvings. Bring a hat, think hot, hot, hot!!!No heavy clothes needed. More than one bathing suit a must have. If you plan to walk up the Dunns River Falls, bring water shoes. Drinking Water was fine, I drank it everyday (and I'm delicate). Take skin lotion too, salt water, hot tub, and swimming pool are all hard on the skin, and trying a new lotion while on vacation is not a good idea. Take all you can, and if you have a digital camera, and a laptop, you can download and look at your pictures everynight. Another fun thing was we could email to other guests we became friendly with from all over the world. If you are on a public beach, take as little as possible with you. I took several bathing suits on this trip. Mike took 3. We both used EVERY ONE!!! Jamaica is a Water Lover's Paradise.

Save $ bring it with you.

Casual and dress casual clothes are fine. Don't forget flip flops and a bathing suit! Bug repellant is helpful and sunscreen too. Everything is more expensive when you go away so bring it with you. ASA 200 will cover most everything as long as you have high shutter speeds.

Survival Kit

Bring a sturdy suitcase....they just love to throw everything around in the airport. Bring only shorts or for the women mini skirts or mini dresses it is too hot for anything else...serious. Plenty of Mosquito RepellentBatteriesHeadache TablesEye drops Very small camcorders or cameras...nothing too big and bulky to draw attention to yourself. Less is more Sometimes it might get cool in the night time so a jumper\sweater or cardigan would be a good idea.

do remember good mossie spray

by rachel_sun

Take normal suitcase and a small back-pack for trips out. Lightweight summer clothing is all year, but if you go up in the mountains, you will need good walking shoes and a sweater or jacket.Do not wear swimwear away from the beaches. Take your usual things like sun lotion and mossie spray and pills etc. When you leave the country, When you leave the country, you will have to pay a departure tax of j$750

Packing List

An expandale piece of luggge will save your life!!! Or atleast room in your suitcase if you're going to shop and bring things back for people. One carry-on and a bookbag will do. I will get straight to the point! Besides of the obvious things, make sure you bring an umbrella or something that is waterproof to cover you when it rains. I have a $5 rain jacket from Oldnavy that folds up and is very convenient and I love it!!!! Wear cpmfortable clothing. Men bring a dress jacket just in case you go to a restaurant that requires one. Bring all of the necessary medicinals that you need! And your insurance/medical card. Also, have your blood type written down somewhere in case of an emergency! Bring a little bottle of laundry detergent. It will save you money. A sewing kit will come in handy, dental floss is excellent when all else fails and something needs to be held together. I used my...

If your like me, a light traveler, I have one luggage and one bag to take along with me on the plane. I stayed here for a week and I really don't need a lot. So just get one big luggage and stuff everything you need in there. Before going on this trip, I checked the 5 day forcast. The weather man perdicted that sunny skies in Montego Bay, and Kingston, all week. Plus, 80 degrees. So I thought, great, looks like a good vacation. But let's face it, its Jamaica. Its tropical weather and rain is around the corner. So I grabed my umbrella and it was the first thing I put in my luggage. Than I packed short sleeve shirt, four of them. I also brought a long one for something to sleep in. Second, I packed five pairs of socks and boxers...need to be clean :). I brought along one sweater that I can take off, it has a front zipper and unzips all the way, make it easier on me. At first, I thought I...

I would not take any more than 2 suitcases with me anywear in the world, which is standard on most trips. You might want to take something light weight to carry on and bring an empty bag so you can bring back souvenirs. Take warm weather clothes with you, but pack an umbrella in case you are there during their rainy season. Remember to take an old pair of shoes with you in case you do some exploring or go to Dunns River Falls which requires you to wear shoes and they will get wet in the water. You might want to take a converter with you if you are from the United States. When we were there it was needed although it may not be anymore. Any churches that you go in will not let you take any flash photography. You will have to use only available light, so it is a good idea to take fast film speed and a tripod if you have one available. They love American blue jeans so if you have any you...
