Anything goes. But when we turned up at the Grande Lido with our Nike holdalls the bellboys had a good giggle at it in amongst the designer bags!!!! Posh hotels ask for trousers/skirts/shoes etc to be worn in the evening - no beach wear. But outside of the all inclusives anything goes.

You'll wear your swimsuit 90% of the time, so make sure it's one you're comfortable in. Also, most resorts want you to dress 'resort casual' for dinner. And some resorts also have a 'formal night,' if that's something your into. BUG SPRAY!!!!!!! Take 'Off!,' 'Skintastic' or something, because the mosquitos are everywhere.

It all depends on what you want to do - I've done backpacking where I packed and travelled light. I've done the resorts where you want something nice for the evenings although the days are quite casual. Just be sure to pack tropical because it will definitely be warm and usually sunny. Lots of beach wear but if you want to venture up into the mountains, don't forget the hiking shoes. Nothing special - the water in Jamaica has a good reputation and is usually safe to drink. So, no problems. There are lots of beaches so bring all your beach gear. May want an umbrella for the occassional shower. Keep your donkey's basket balanced on both sides. Make sure you get one with a strong back ;-)

Not much bullfrog sunscreen !!! Lasts in the water a disposable underwater camera Cheap inflatable floats or rings are nice to have, so that you can float in the water while sipping on the frosty beverage of your choice. Just give them to a kid or hotel employee when you leave. There is a swimup bar at the resort. Nice. Very Nice.

One you can carry on, ideally. Unless you're taking a bunch of school supplies or toys or whatever as gifts, which is nice to do. For Negril at a big resort you might need dressy stuff. Anyplace else in Negril you only need a t-shirt and shorts or sundress or in the daytime, a swimsuit. Shoes are mostly optional ;) whatever you need, pharmacies in Jamaica are expensive and don't carry all the same brands as in the US. No problem charging batteries in Jamaica. Beach towel - most hotels don't provide them. Extra swimsuit (hate changing into wet one). A floaty raft or other water toys are nice to have.

To climb Dunns River Falls, you'll need water shoes with support on the back of the foot (flip-flops are no good). Otherwise you'll have to rent a pair for $5 or buy some for $12-15. Bring money (obviously). But I want to mention that in the tourist areas everything is priced and negotiable in U.S. dollars so there's no need to convert much money to Jamaican dollars if you're carrying U.S. currency. Exchange rate was 42-47 J$ per US$.

It was quite refreshing to see people without the typical English (and numerous other Countries)accessory..the mobile phone, superglued to the hand or ear...it would I guess have been useful to have taken mine, but to be honest, out there where I was in the country I would have looked ludicrous, spoiled and out of context... however phoning home was difficult unless I went into Port Antonio...because I didnt want to disrespect the ladies house I was staying at by maxin' out the phone... So I guess, take one if you NEED to..and can get it set up internationally, but you can find phone booths in Port Antonio.A big Black umbrella, trainers or comfortable sandals, hand fan, or at the very least carry a thin magazine to fan yourself, take a bandana or baby wipes or a flannel, cos its nice to wipe your face...ladies, if you wear makeup, note that you should keep it in the fridge it melts!...
