    Portside Buffet Restaurant

I have to say that the food offered at Holiday Inn Sunspree was just okay. We mostly ate at the main restaurant, the PORTSIDE (pic # 1), which offers buffet style service with a wide variety of local and international cuisine.
Breakfast was served 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The fare was the usual eggs scrambled, or made to order omelets, bacon, sausages, fruits (papaya - bananas - pineapple - cantaloupe), Yogurt, breads, cereals, pastries, juices, tea, milk and coffee.
Lunch served 12:00 noon to 2:30 p.m. Lunch fare included soup - usually two kinds offered - bread, lunch meet and cheeses, hot dishes, fish, pasta, salad bar, fruits, coffee and beverages.
Dinner served 6:00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. Dinner fare included the day's cutting station (chicken, roast beef or pork loin), pasta, fish, vegetables, breads, salad bar, cheeses, fruits, pastries and beverages.

Sorrento: Italian cuisine served a la carte. Reservations are required. (pic # 2)
Paella: A la carte dining featuring international cuisine. Reservations are required (Pic # 3)
Seabreeze: Jamaican and regional specialties. Reservations are required (Pic # 4 & # 5)

Reservations can be made at the Information Desk in the Main Lobby. The A La Carte restaurants require that men wear long pants.

Barefoot Bar & Grill: Serves hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries and fried fish pieces.
Jerk Hut: Serves delicious jerk chicken
Snack Hut: Serves Nachos with cheese, hot dogs, popcorn, ice cream cones and beverages.

    The Brewery: Great Take Away!

by Raslady Updated Jul 13, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Have a dance after your meal

The Brewery is a combination of Restaurant, Bar, Night Club and Take Away.

There are themed nights, Disco, 70's/80's,Reggae, Dancehall, and Karaoke, so you won't get bored!
It is very popular with the local people, especially when one of the Jamaican Reggae Stars is performing.

It is situated well above the road level and the side of the dance floor/restaurant is an open terrace, so you can catch a breeze when the temperature on the dance floor gets too hot!

In the Bar area is a large TV screen showing (if my memory serves me right) sports. Not my favourite viewing, but the men like it.

Favorite Dish: I haven't eaten in the restaurant, but the Take Away food is taken from the same menu, so it must be as good and plentiful.

    Stanley's Patties: Local Jamaican cuisine

    Stanley's
    2 more images

We stopped by Juici Patties on St. James first but there was a line for food and I wasn't really all that hungry but when we got to the end of the street, we spotted Stanley's and decided to try one pattie since we hadn't had any on this trip. The sign as you go in says they've been there since 1950 and that they've been shown on the Food Network (no amount of Googling could come up with a reference to the Food Network and Stanley's), no lines here and the patties are cheap, less than $1US.

Favorite Dish: Patties, of course, which are pastries that contains various fillings and spices baked inside a flaky shell.

  • TAPAS: Mediterranean

    by ksaw29 Updated Jun 21, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This restaurant is found behind Coral Cliff Hotel (just pass Punto Latino).
It is sooo worth the walk/drive!!!!!! It is romantic, the food exceeds any other I have tasted but suprisingly it comes for the same price. I wouldn't be giving this place justice if I said it was magnificent. It was far more.

Favorite Dish: The signature dish is the "Tapas". My mouth is drooling as I write. It is a sampling of any 3 dishes on the menu. I visited 4 times (yes 4!!!) in my 1 week stay!!! Other favourites are:
Snapper Camambert, Lamb Tzatziki and Salmon Filet Mattaine.

Jerky's Bar and Grill: Authentic Jerk

by donforse Written Jan 15, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Jerky's is an outdoor restaurant located close to the cruise terminal, and is a perfect stop on your way back to the ship.

The fare is pretty simple, and you can watch the cooks prepare the food on outdoor grills right next to the ordering counter. Of course, the local Red Stripe beer is plentiful. Very cheap as well. Nine of us ate there for about $30 bucks.

Favorite Dish: The jerk pork was insane, though the jerk chicken was almost as good. The meat was served with some sweet potatoes and some type of cornbread-like fried biscuit. All extremely good.

    Red Stripe

The red Stripe is the most famous jamaican beer. You'll see everybody drinking it all around the island. It's not a belgium beer but it's not bad. Can't say that you have been in Jamaica and you haven't dink red stripe.

Favorite Dish: My Favorite dish from this restaurant was the Curried goat.. Tastes exactly like chicken only curried.

Restaurants are around every corner and the best of European, American, Far Eastern and Jamaican cuisine is offered. It is impossible to include all the wonderfull eateries on your trip to Montego Bay. The following sampling, however, should keep you busy.

The Brewery: On Miranda Ridge offers a cozy pub atmosphere and tasty bar foos washed down with draft Red Stripe, of course.

Pelican: On Glouster Avenue, a long-time favourite of visitors and locals. You'll find all the old American favourites as well as Jamaican dishes.

A bit of everything on the menu, including a legitimate vegetarian section. The restaurant has a quirky, '70s ish feel, but is quite nice.

Favorite Dish: I purchased the vegetable curry and a fruit plate. Both were wonderful, and the fruit plate could have easily been a meal by itself.

This was one of the few gleaming experiences from our trip. The food was amazing, the seafood was fresh, the ambiance was romantic, the service was excellent, and the prices were very resasonable.

Favorite Dish: Anything seafood, but particularly the lobster. The lobster was incredible!!! It was succulent, slightly sweet and creamy, incredibly fresh, and amazing flavor.

  • Robbie Joseph's Seahorse Grill: Seaside Dining & Great Food!

by photropics Written Mar 6, 2011
Our seaside table looked just like this.
    3 more images

We had a table on the open air dining deck right on the sea. The view was fantastic, overlooking the water & the marina with the city lights in the background. Just beautiful & very romantic.
Exactly what we were looking for.
The menu had a big selection to choose from, local & foreign dishes but the waiter told us we were there on the "two for one lobster dinner" night, so we went for the lobster deal & weren't disappointed.
Food was excellent & the waiter had a personality & gave good service.
There was a Saxophone player doing a solo type thing & he added to the ambiance.
    Really enjoyed it.
The price was a bit less than what we would pay in the states.
Very happy with the experience & will go again next time we're in Montego Bay.

I'm adding some pictures I found on their website.

Favorite Dish: Lobster tail dinner was great & it was 2 for one on the night we went so We got two dinners for the price of one. I had grilled lobster with drawn butter & my girlfriend had lobster thermidor.
    Both were very nice.

  • FRY CHI: ASIAN / JAMAICAN FUSION !!

by FabianLee Written Mar 9, 2011

We ventured into this "asian sports cafe" and was delightfully surprised, so much that we made it our hang out for the entire visit.

It is located in the St James Shopping Plaza (next to Decameron) it looked as if it was newly opened. The staff informed me there were other locations but this one was new,

The food was amazing - on our first trip I had jerked chicken with shrimp fried rice !! my wife had curry chicken chow mien and the kids had jerked beef sliders.

Everyone was satisfied and the meals werent too pricey

They are open for breakfast and they have everything from eggs and toast to fried chicken and pancakes plus on our last visit we tried the Jamaican breakfast with pork and ackee dumplins and boiled bananas.

Favorite Dish: The Honey Jerked chicken is great because its spicey without being too hott. My wife loved the curry chicken chow mien, she said she never had any noodles soo tasty
