 | Negril Things To Do | Tips 11 - 20 of 58 | | Popular Things To Do | Other Things To Do Tips | All Tips (58) During our stay in Jamaica, we escaped the resort for a day trip around sites on the South Coast. I think many tour companies offer this tour, including one that could be booked through our hotel, but I read online before we left home about this specific operator and how good they were. We weren't disappointed. The tour includes 3 main stops: a river ride on the Black River, a visit (and swim if you'd like ) to YS Falls, and a tour of the Appleton Estate rum distillery. The van you are in might be shared with others who booked the same tour, but we had the van and the driver, Avril, to ourselves. Avril was a great guide, chatty of course. He told us bits of Jamaican history, and especially liked to talk about native plants and fruits. He sometimes pulled off to the side of the road just to show us a coconut tree or ackee plant. He also was interested in the differences between Jamaica and where we were from. He didn't seem to understand the concept of us having bananas (or other tropical fruits), but not actually growing the fruits in our country. As for the sights, the Black River tour was fun, though I was disappointed that they guide didn't feed the crocodiles. Still, we saw a few, some up close, which I found exciting. The YS Falls were beautiful, and there didn't seem to be many people around the actual falls even though many were on the trailers pulled by tractors that bring you to the falls. And the Appleton Estate tour was interesting, not the best part of the day, but we had a guide to ourselves and he was a colourful character. Plus the free samples at the end were worthwhile. =) A lunch mid-day was included, from a restaurant on a hill with incredible views of the valley around it. If you want to go on a day trip out of Negril, I highly recommend Clive's service. They do various tours all over the island, so they're likely to have something for everyone. Leave a Comment

Roaring River is a great place to hang out, smoke and contemplate. However, you should be careful with the unofficial guides that hang around Roaring River. They will try to get you to hire them and after showing you around ask for more money than agreed upon. Don't fall for their intimidations! Leave a Comment

After you leave the Polo Field you start down to the beach where you will take a ride in the ocean with a horse. They switch out the horses for different ones to give the ones a break after their long walk. You grab a new horse after getting changed and off you go into the ocean for a smal run back and forth a few times and that's the trip. This was so well worth the money and time, it was a great experence for both of us and would highly suggest you try if able. Please see the website for limitations. Leave a Comment

At Rick's Cafe while waiting for the sunset, watch the Jamaican "lifeguards" dive from the cliffs and the 95 foot tree dive. Have a few drinks, tip the lifeguards, then have a 45 foot leap yourself. The rush is amazing though a sure buzzkill. Try it, this old man did. Leave a Comment Address: Rick's CafeDirections: East to the end of the beach.

Oh Yeah, I almost forgot, you get a ride home too, relax and enjoy the view beacuase it takes about an hour or more to get back to Montego Bay from here. We saw many broke down cars on the side of the road asked why, the driver told us that there are no towing companies to Jamaica so if you break down, well that's where it stays. So if you ever thought about opening a towing company I think we found your spot! Leave a Comment

The next stage takes you up high for a nice view, this area is where they use to place Polo. The view from up here was perfect, you could see for miles. Here would be another place to grab your camera! May I suggest extra batteries, this trip takes 3 hours! Leave a Comment

As the ride continues start going into the Rainforest, take out your cameras, there are so many types of tree and much more. The bamboo in this photo was as big a round as my arm, OHM! The horses are very well trained and the guides are right there if there is an issue. There is 1 guide per couple, they will take your camera a take photos of you and bring it back at every cool points on the trip. Leave a Comment

As we went long through the rainforest we came across this small farm in an opening. The crop around here is mostly coffee and we were told he had recently started here. This small structure is the home, as you go along your will find many more like this up in the mountains. Leave a Comment

This is a great thing to do when you have about 3 to 4 hours to kill and you will get to see alot in this ride. The ride starts out leaving the farm, after a short time you come across the old mill, very cool. At this point your horse may stop at will for a nibble and no matter what you try he's not going any where! After a few minutes the horse decided it was time to go, because he sure wouldn't listen to me when I asked! Now on to the next point in this adventure. See next. Leave a Comment

Rhino safaris offers you a chnace to take a really fun semi-inflatable high powered boat on an at sea ride for over 3 hours. You ride about 45 minutes on open ocean and then cut up the Black River into the Mangrove swamps before heading back and stopping for a snorkeling sessionj. It was the most fun tour we took in Negril. It is not for children but for adults it is a blast. Don't bring anything that can't get wet. Leave a Comment
