    Ride & Swim

Enjoy a scenic bus trip to the Chukka Cove in an air conditioned bus which pick you up from your hotel. Once you get there, you meet the beautiful well cared for horses. You then take a ride through the gorgeous Jamaican Farm Villages and through the mountains.

Then you get to experience the ride and swim, where your horse plunges its way through the beautiful clear waters of the Caribbean sea and you can feel the power and sensation of the lovely horses. The tour takes around 2-3 hours and you are provided with experienced guides.

It is a remarkable excursion and i have heard that Jamaica is the only country to be doing the ride and swim which makes it unique for you all to do. It 60 US Dollars per person and well worth the money. You also get a photo taken of you standing on the horses back which is great.

Close to Falmouth is the amazing Blue Lagoon, it was one of the most amazing excursions i did in Jamaica. The trip has to be done after dark and you take a boat trip along the famous glistening waters.
The water is all luminous when touched and you can see the outlines of fish, jelly fish and streaks of light when you touch the water.
You can even get in the water and swim and watch the water as it lights up the whole area around you.
Words cannot describe how great this is, it would even show up on camera. Make sure you do this trip in Jamaica. Its only 15 US Dollars per person and lasts around 1 hour.

We took a trip to Nine Mile at St Ann, where the famous legendary Reggae King Bob Marley was born on 6th Feb 1945. This is also his final resting place where you can visit his grave and pay your respects to the King.

You travel through the countryside where you can see some amazing scenery travelling through Higgings Town and then to the village of Nine Mile.
You start the tour at the house where Bob was born and where his fame later then began. Many of Bob Marleys family still live here including his mother, his uncle and and also his cousin who we met and he told us about Bobs life.

You get to stand on "Mount Zion Rock" where Bob used to meditate, You get to sit on his bed where he enjoyed chilling out, you can see "the pillow" where Bob used to lay and it was made famous in the song Talking Blues then finally you can walk into the memorial room where Bob Marley was later laid to rest.....
This is a fantastic excursion and i recommend it to anyone who is a fan. The cost of the excursion was only 15 US Dollars which we did with a local Tourguide.

  • Address: Nine Mile, St Ann, Jamaica
  • Directions: It takes around 2 hours to drive there from Falmouth. It is worth a visit for the fantastic views of Jamaica.

I went snorkelling along Falmouth beach in Jamaica and it was amazing. It only cost me 10 US Dollars and we went out to sea and saw some amazing fish in the waters.

I saw some sea Urchings which you cannot touch as they sting and i also saw lots of cute tiger fish, puffer fish and also starfish plus many more colourful fishes and beautiful coral. I really wish i had of taken an underwater camera though because it was so beautiful to see the underwater life.

Anyone wanting to go snorkelling make sure you take your underwater camera as its something which cannot be missed.

  • Directions: Anyone along the beach can help you to go snorkelling. We went with a guy called Leon.

Enjoy the Jamaican Countryside and take a trip down Martha Brae on a 30ft Bamboo River Raft. This raft is suitable for 2 people and you are taken across the clear blue waters by the soft gentle currencts of the river. You are guided by an expert rafting man.

It is a nice relaxing excursion and you can take in all the stunning countryside as you are taken across the pretty blue waters for around 2 hours. You can then stop off for a swim in the beautiful water or stop by for a drink of Rum Punch.

This amazing trip only costs 30 US Dollars per person.

This is a must see...You form a human chain with about 20 or 30 other people (this is important because you can slip and fall). A guide will lead you through and up the falls. There are lockers for your belongings, so if possible, team up with a few people and split the cost; have one person responsible for the key (preferribly you). Be sure to tip your guide after the tour, and remember what I said about the shops....

At some of the all inclusive resorts, (Ocho Rios I know has it), for $100 US, you can go on a boat ride on a 60 foot catamaran! It's awesome!! On board drinking, dancing, and there is a spot they drop anchor, and you get to dive off the boat and swim in a BEAUTIFUL crystal-clear lagoon! On the way back, you are tired, but the pay off is great...the ride ends with the view of a beautiful sunset on the water.

Mayfield Falls is about an hour away from Montego Bay or Negril and is a great alternative to visiting the overtouristed Dunn's River Falls.

A guide will take you up the falls showing you all the places you can jump from into pools, a cave that you can swim under and several places that are natural jacuzzis. The guide has a waterproof bag so bring along your camera and the guide will be more than happy to take some shots of you, there are more photos in my Mayfield Falls travelogue.

There were several groups at the falls with us on our trip but we had our own guide and very short waits for the other group's photo ops.

After the walk up the falls, the guide took us back through the countryside, showing us some native plants. You can have lunch included with your trip but we did not.

The climb up the falls is not terribly strenous if you are in reasonable shape but there are a few sections that are slippery and steep. And the climb back up to the parking lot is pretty steep (esp. for us flatlanders from the Midwest!).

In addition to your camera, bring your bathing suit, a towel and a pair of shoes to walk up the falls in (aqua shoes are ideal). There are lockers at the entrance for your valuables.

Be sure and tip your guide at the end if you had a good time :-)

Yea mon! Brother Bobby is here! His birthplace and grave are at a place called Nine Mile. I never went (I'm not a fan...sorry), but to give you an idea of how big Bob Marley really was (and is) in Jamaica, he is the equivalent of Elvis in the US. Tours are available most days.

I thought the Appleton Rum factory tour was interesting, you got to see older methods of rum production as well as a brief glimpse into the distillery that is currently being used.

The best part of the tour though is the taste test at the end, 18 different types and flavors are available for tasting and of course you can then proceed to the store and purchase those that you just must bring home with you :-)

Please see my travelogue for some more photos.
