Dunn's River Falls

by TravellerMel

During my first trip to Jamaica in 2001 (as a cruise port), my companion and I opted for Dunn's River Falls as our shore excursion. Our ship docked on the opposite side of the island, which required a 2-hour bus trip each way. Dunn's River Falls is very beautiful, and very crowded with tourists. Don't know if/how this could be helped. We arrived, and were led to the base of the Falls where we formed a "human chain" to ascend the waterfall. There are ample pauses for photo ops (the Massage Chair, the Pool) and there are Jamaican guides along the way who are happy to take a photo with your camera, which serves the double duty of creating a souvenir and keeping your camera dry! Remember to place a few dollars in the tip box at the top to show your appreciation. At one point, my foot became lodged between two rocks, and I went down. I thought the purpose of the "human chain" was to prevent...

The Sunset in Jamaica

by malianrob

Its hard sometimes to just sit back and relax. I usually have so much on my plate even when I vacation. I have a list of places I want to visit and thing I want to see that I usually need a vacation from my vacation. In Jamaica I managed to unwind and enjoy things like a nice beverage while watching the sun set. I dont know if it was the reggae music playing or what but it was the perfect evening.

Sha'are Shalom Synagogue

by cochinjew

This synagogue built in 1912, designed by a local jewish architect Mr R Henriques is the only one left in Jamaica, which boasts of a rich legacy of Jews who had arrived there as early as 1557. For those interested in the jewish history of Jamaica, visiting this synagogue and arranging a visit with Mr Ainsley Henriques, an erudite gentleman whose family has been there at least for 300 years.. would be very rewarding

Luminous Lagoon

by Jim_Eliason

Just east of Falmouth is a natural phenomenon of bioluminence. A small plankton creature in this lagoon give off a glow when disturbed. The combination of thousands of these cause the waters to glow when fishes move or when someone swims in the water. It is impossible to explain but definitely a Must See for those visiting the area.

Dunn's River Falls

by Jim_Eliason

Dunn's River Falls is Jamaica's most popular attraction. The falls rise gently allowing them to be climbed for the entire 105 feet from the ocean to the top. This is a definite must try experience but be prepared to be soaked.

YS Falls

by Jim_Eliason

On an old plantation just outside St. Elizabeth in the south part of the island is YS Falls. The falls is a little higher than the Dunns River so you can't climb them but you can swim in the pools below the ponds. It's also a good place to spot local birds.

Montego Bay

Montego Bay is the second largest city in Jamaica and the oldest of the resort cities. It sits on the Northwest coast and is served by an international airport making it the most convenient of the Jamaican resort destinations to get to.

Rafting the Martha Brae

by TravellerMel

For our Jamaican shore excursion, my friend Lisa and I had to do something that was not strenuous. Lisa had had major surgery about 6 weeks prior to our cruise, so climbing waterfalls was not an option. We decided to go "Rafting on the Martha Brae" river - and it was an EXCELLENT choice! The short bus ride into what looked like jungle really set the scene for when we arrived - it was wild, and primitive, and absolutely gorgeous! We waited in a line to be assigned to our raft captain - we got Gale. He was great - funny, and friendly. He asked us to take photos of him, then he took photos of us! The raft itself is a 2-seater, and as you can see from one of the photos, is made from primitively lashed bamboo. The water seeping up freaked me out a little, but the experience was wonderful! The 3-mile trip was fantastic - we purchased the toy mini-raft that was tossed to us from a man on the...

Must Do Trips

by onestepaway

A must is the Dunns River Fall, this is a beautiful place and this climbing was an experience. We were freaked out during this climb because even though you are on a guided tour, one bad move and you could be gone, washed down the falls, but it was so worth it! Plus make sure you get the correct shoes that require because they are a must and use a waterproof camera!Another place to see is the Prospect horseback ride, it was so worth it and the guides are amaizing, even when my horse freaked out they were their to help and calm him down the rest of the journey. Beware of a horse that acts crazy before your leave out, I got him and he went crazy! But the views are so worth it and buy some honey whiel you are there, they make it on the property, its so worth the money and its pretty big too.
