If you are easily irritated you may want want to forgo the craft markets...the shopkeepers are very persistent to the point of being nearly physical with tourists. You must be firm with them. Shop around before buying souvenirs so you know what everything goes for. Many shops carry almost the same merchandise so you can bargain with a few of them to get the best price.
The airport! Don't buy anything there except a cold beer. Wait til you get to the beach and make friends with a cab driver. That means tip him generously.Check your restaurant and bar tabs for gratuity, a lot of places add 10% which is a lousy tip. Always slide your service people some extra cash, they get very little of that automatic gratuity.
Montego bay is butiful but carries a danger with it after dark. They try to take you some were, but all they want to do is get your money. Negril is much safer but still has it's problems. Dont flash alot of cash or wear a lot of good jewlery. This is still a thirld world country and is semipoor.
Watch out for hustlers,people trying to sell you something or show you way if you are lost.Some people are genuine and will be helping out of kindness,but most will want money for thier help.If you want to see the real Jamaica,dont go to the big resorts like Montego Bay,go to the smaller ones.Watch out for beach sellers.If you use a taxi,always ask the fare before you get in.Th e roads in Jamaica are not ment to walk on,there are not many paths etc.
BEWARE!!!!hustlers everywhere,use common sense,more in the bigger towns,agree on the $before you get in the cab,inspect any rental..scooters,bikes,cars,motorbikes etc...if you have a camera it wouldnt hurt to take a few pix before you rent!!!! to prove you did'nt hit that pothole that everyone does!!! I man travel with little money cuz I man dont have much anyway , it is hard to say 'I cant afford dat mon' alot of people belive there that if you got to Ja. you have lots of money, sad but atleast true for I. ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
